my dad found this HUGE snapping turtle crawling across our driveway this morning:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/sexymollusk/DSCN0830.jpg

it was walking out towards the road, so my dad tried to push it back in the other direction with a broom towards the woods behind our house, so it wouldn't get run over:

of course the poor thing didnt like the broom being shoved in his face:

and finally he went the other way:

We had two turtles as pets WAY back. They loved eating meat. Especially the finger tip of our friend. hahaha

you should have kept it as a pet and named it "penis-face"

hhahah i dont think it'd get along too well with our cats. though our male cat skittles has been really bratty lately, he could use a snapping turtle to keep him in line.

"The Common Snapping Turtle will eat just about anything, including: aquatic plants, fish, frogs and tadpoles, salamanders, insects, snails, leeches, worms, snakes, small mammals, and baby ducks and goslings. They will also eat carrion (dead animals)."

I see snapping turtles and all I can think of is that stupid Chuck Berry song. That is one scary critter, though.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 17 September 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

he really wasn't too scary in person, aside from snapping at the broom. as for the turtle...

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 17 September 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

I like how the progression between the second and third pictures, coupled with the narration, suggests that turtle changed direction by retracting his head and tail into his shell and then each coming out on opposite ends.

I have an ornate box turtle but it's tiny, like 5 inches. I think she's like 12 years old. She is kind of a boring pet. But she always comes over to the side of thetank when I go over becuase she hopes food will be thrown down.
