anyone try rosetta stone? looking for something good to brush on v. basic japanese

I don't like Rosetta Stone, from what I've seen of it anyway. Too much emphasis on not very useful vocabulary and not enough on meat and potatoes grammar. Although if you're needs are basic it might suit you. You can download P1ms1eur's Basic Japanese Course from t0rr3nt sites, which I found to be very useful. がんばって!

I've tried German with Rosetta Stone, I just can't do it. I assume that is more about my inability to learn languages (I've tried many times in the past) than with the software. I do know how to say dog, cat, man, woman, boy and girl though.

I think that's my point - how often are those things going to come up in a speaker's conversation? There's only so much you can say about a cat with a few words.
