What Is the Most Rubbish New Jersey County?

burlington b/c it's just kinda THERE, w/ no real history or anything weird/interesting. and it has a sleazy political culture all of its own (philly sleaze + boss hogg-ism).

(i don't want to let mercer off without complaining loudly about hamilton township and their weird, devolved cadre of angry teenagers who spend weekends hanging out in parking lots.)

although maybe the closed on Sunday thing is nice for workers

It's got the congestion of Bergen County, the hoods of east Essex County, the overpriced homes of Morris County, and the big-hair Jersey people of Middlesex County.

Plus, that's where Bon Jovi's from.

and many people from sayreville despise bonjovi as much as any bonjovi-hater.

If there was some way to combine the trashiest of Middlesex, Monmouth and Union counties, that would be the worst. A toxic mix of Sayreville, Keasbey and Manville. Ugh.

My point about Bergen is that with all that money it still mostly manages to be hideously ugly.

the counties in the deep south of the state (gloucester, cumberland, cape may, and salem) are all too freaky to be the most rubbish -- in my opinion, at least.

Camden Co. is rubbish. The power team of Camden + Gloucester City and then freakin Cherry Hill.

Salem / Cumberland counties are plenty strange. Any county with a rodeo or a drive-in movie isn't that bad.

Gloucester County has some nice towns (Mullica Hill, Wenonah, etc) and some mostly harmless big box sprawl (Deptford, Washington Township).
Gloucester City (which is in Camden County) is a dump.

I'm shocked to find Wenonah being mentioned on this thread - I thought South Jersey was generally Parts Unknown in terms of Jersey discourse. I live around Wenonah and it is a nice neighborhood to walk through. There is a great coffee shop - Crescent Moon Cafe, I believe - in Mullica Hill. Hops and Grapes is a fantastic liquor store, although I wonder how they survive when the college kids are away. Also the Shoprites around here can't be beat.

Woodbury nice? some parts maybe, but downtown is a bunch of empty storefronts. It's like Haddonfield if you took away everything nice.

my wife says salem county. "it's all dead stuff and smelliness and swamps, and it's economically depressed."

ha. Salem Co. does smell bad when they are laying down manure, but it has lots of folksy fishin' holes and the previously mentioned rodeo. no way is it worse than the urban blight of Camden.

manville is in somerset county. but it is pretty dire -- i should know, that's where my father grew up and it was a 15-minute drive from where i grew up.

My mother grew up in Manville! I visited a few times in the late 80s but don't remember that much about it.

dyao and los blue jeans I think I went to high school about 5 minutes from you. Woodbury is OK to drive through on 45 and say to yourself "Oh, what a quaint little town" but is a complete bore the instant you get out of your car. Mullica Hill has one great coffee shop (Stir It Up), a library with an excellent DVD selection, and not much else.

Oh man it's like finding a support group for a rare and terminal disease. I agree wrt to Woodbury being a bit of a dump, especially so if you come up on downtown from the side with all the auto dealerships.
