FUCKING A, ALL THAT I STARE AT RECENTLY, EVEN THE MOST PRURIENT OF SIGNALS AS A WOMAN'S CLEAVAGE, ALL DISSOLVES INTO A PATTERN OF DISSIMILATION, IT WOULD APPEAR TO EVEN THE LEAST EDUCATED OF MY REGULAR OBSERVERS THAT I AM APPROACHING LEVELS OF ESTIMATED INCOMPETENCY HERETOFORE ATTRIBUTED ONLY TO GRANT, EVEN ACCOUTNING FOR INFLATION.

What about Hoover? Or Nixon? Mount Rushmore isn't big enough.

― Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Saturday, 24 September 2005 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

hoover wasn't a bad guy--more of a jimmy carter type

― mookieproof (mookieproof), Saturday, 24 September 2005 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Hoover was the most progressive Republican president after TR, and smart as a whip. Not really a candidate for worst ever, though certainly not up to the challenges of his times.

Among actual candidates for presidential infamy, Buchanan and Pierce were tools who hastened the Civil War, Andrew Johnson was hapless and unlucky, and Nixon was evil and paranoid.

The thing about my picks is that their worthlessness is intrinsic and kinda ahistorical. They would've been equally irredeemably wretched presidents in any era, I reckon.

Nixon's big failing was that he got caught; his mission to China opened a lot of the doors for current east-west communication (at least if "Nixon In China" is anything to go by).
