DG, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i took two sleeping pills, woke up at 5.45 pm, looked out the window and sydney is on fire - so far, it's beena perfect xmas.

Geoff, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Father christams brought me chocolate euros, he is truly a man of the times. The sun has come out and I am shortly to escape to sefton park for a bit.

Ed, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I R fatnick, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Morning all,

Hmm. Xmas doesn't seem to have begun yet really. We appear to be watching Russell Watson (is there a more punchable face in the british Isles?) singing carols, ostensibly for the benefit of my grandmother, who keep whispering to me "do we have to have the telly on?". I am currently on the interweb because it has been decreed that at lunch with our cousins tomorrow, we all need to have a joke to tell (presumably no-one has faith in the crackers). I have found a decenty blonde joke for my grandmother, and now I need one for me*. Any help gratefully accepted.

*sadly, "It's this thing" won't translate at the dinner table.

Mark C in bosom of family, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

christmas is over round here, no-one has been e-mailing because I presume they think Jesus's birthday is more important than me. I am trying to deal with the aftermath now, what to do? sit round, play on line, copy cds and listen to the cats chiming in chorus "MEat! Meat! Meat!" Its almost like a horror film :)

Menelaus Darcy, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

as for presents, all useful stuff. Pity I will have to spend my book vouchers on course texts...

Menelaus Darcy, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's X-mas and I'm off to the airport to Las Vegas. I got a ramen bowl and a 125 CD holder.

Honda, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I got one of those lickle matchbox digital cameras Ed wanted, chocolate bars, an Illustrated Encyclopedia of Science from my mad gran, and a document wallet and notebook (huh? they always do this) from my parents.

Graham, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(And I don't have computer I can connect said camera too here, mwawawawa)

Graham, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

pitty, i was gonna ask if it was any good. the camera that is. we have escaped christmas! heading for four in the afternoon, not a single present, not a single decoration, no pine needles, no television, no turkey, mince pies or brussel sprouts (although to be fair we still have about 2 kilos of brandy butter, ed puts it on toast in an effort to make it go away). but for those of you who are into it, enjoy!

another james, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wahey, I got the amazing Lloyd Cole and The Negatives album, as well as socks! And my friend lent me his electric guitar while he's away over Christmas. Bu goddammit, what's the third chord of 'What's wrong with this picture?'? D? Bm? But then how do you play the riff? I realise that this is of no interest to anyone else. Aaaargh!

Ally C, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am full of dinner and booze and listening to Madonna's Immaculate Collection. Yay! I got Faust 1, Neu 2, Wind Up Bird Chronicles and The Emigrants as well as assorted uninteresting practical pressies. I am currently very contented and looking thirstily at the half bottle of Glemorangie my little brother got me.

RickyT, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i got my great grandfathers gold pocket watch.

anthony, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am full of wine and beer, I have a pink dressing gown, some granny slippers, KNICKERS, trainers (sigh, they are ones I cannot wear, come on, HI-TEC?? do not buy me trainers oh beloved parents) and £100 of MUNNY! I R not listening to choons just yet but haf SQUAREPUSHER STOLE MY BARBEQUEUE BY SPECIAL MOTH stuck in my head. MERRY CHRISTMAS! Yer all chuffin' ACE, man.

Sarah, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That Squarepusher wot a thieving bastard eh folks?

RickyT, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

They have supplied a sample print with the camera, and it looks a lot like a camcorder still. But bearing in mind the price and it only just being wide enough and thick enough to fit an AAA battery along the bottom, who cares? It appears to work exactly as advertised, if not better.

I also got £20 from mad gran (I've discovered she was committed at various points during the 70s, so I describe her without malice or ridicule, simply as fact).

Graham, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

6.30pm, I'm full of beer and food. I got lots of nice stuff like clothes and books and things but best of all I got trendy new earphones, i've needed them for ages cos my old ones got stuck out the car door and dragged along the M50 for a few miles. I also got the Felix Da Housecat album which is grrrreat.

And and and and I got lots of sweets and stuff and some Hank Williams and Jimmie Rodgers cds and more beer and some vodka. Happy Christmas ILE.

Ronan, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

RickyT, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

another james, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

After a marathon hardcore match, I finally won a match in that game! yay!

james, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I got nice things (like a red fleece jacket that i am wearing), we ate this massive breakfast, and now everyone is sitting around playing video games or reading by themselves. Mom just said, "Are you going to sit at the computer all day?" Would you like to play a game with me, mummy dear?

maria, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The only video game I could get any parent-type to play with me woz PGA Tour Golf on the Megadrive, which my dad bought. He still lost.

Kings Cross, 4pm Xmas Eve - Me: So what time are the trains on Boxing Day back from Stevenage? Ticketbloke: No trains back til the 27th. Me: Give me a day return, my good man. What time is the last train back to Llundain? Ticketbloke: 11.30.

However, ticketbloke LIED. When I turned up to Stevenage BR for my train back to snivilization, the train was CANCELLED! So I had to spend three days chez famille welthorpe. Which had filled me with despair! But which turned out to be unusually joyous! (In part, no doubt, to me trouncing my 10 yr old nephew in the tie breaker in the Weakest Link board game.)

But yes, entirely through accident, this xmas has seen me rediscover the joys of a family christmas. God bless us, every one!

Edna Welthorpe, Mrs, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've managed to get away from playing shithead with Mum and sprout while drinking various amounts of booze, but yeah, family xmas wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, especially as annoying elements weren't invited. I got lots of booze, a cool disco light thing that goes off when my mobile rings and some other odd little things and aftershave, nice little haul really.

cabbage, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Almost like a modern day Scrooge, Edna has reminded us of the true meaning of Christmas. I can see you all getting misty. There's a tear in my eye, at least. Or maybe it's just the beer.

Ally C, Tuesday, 25 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

damn, try that

Ed, Wednesday, 26 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Also, inspired by constant ILE mentioning...I now have a copy of Molesworth!

james, Wednesday, 26 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ed, was that taken with one them l'espion things? I'm impressed.

Graham, Wednesday, 26 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

no a canon a20, it has a groovy little mode called stitch assist. It can be done with any camera and the right software though, however for best result you need a tripod and camera mount that can spin th camera around the focal point of the lens

another james, Wednesday, 26 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
