Comrades!
I am terrored!

The Ghost of Shit Lost From The Get-Go (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

Comrades!
It does not stop! I have just seen video with a Italy man who says he made pizzas for Kim Jong Il and speaks of how wasteful the Dear Leader is!

when something smacks of something (dave225.3), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

I denounce them and curse them! Bastard people!

chap who would dare to kill all the threads (chap), Monday, 3 October 2005 13:05 (twenty years ago)

I like when one of them said "deforming" instead of "defaming." How close is that to the Kim Jong Il movie dialogue?

Most of these people are just North Korean sympathizers or cheerleaders from around the world, which makes the whole thing more creepy if you ask me.

mike h. (mike h.), Monday, 3 October 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

Koreans OTM

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 3 October 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

I'm glad that there's people out there who have passionate discourse on how awesome North Korea is.

andy --, Monday, 3 October 2005 18:44 (twenty years ago)

This is the thread where we take every once of this and quote it for comedic value:

"A form of puppet propaganda"

PappaWheelie B.C., Monday, 3 October 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

how is that quote untrue?

_, Monday, 3 October 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

Funny /= untrue.

Please read the forum, and quote the parts you thought were funny, just as we did. If I find your quote not to be funny, that's okay, you're still in the club.

PappaWheelie B.C., Monday, 3 October 2005 18:59 (twenty years ago)

I have to say this:

‘Team America World Police’ was something of a surprise for me when I saw it a while back. You see leading up to the films release much had been made of how it attacks Americans foreign policy through satire and many commentators were even saying the film was left wing.

However when the film finally arrived on our screens what I saw was not clever satire...The film was juvenile crap, mocking the progressive left and worse of all was at the end of the film when in a rather vulgar speech made by the central American character the US foreign policy was exonerated!

This is basically OTM.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 3 October 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

Well, sure, the movie sucked. It was not funny. At least not to me.

PappaWheelie B.C., Monday, 3 October 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

why is it funny? because it had the word "puppet" in it? the film was a marionette comedy and it propagandized their dumbass liberatarian/neo-con viewpoint, it is accurately described by "puppet propaganda" which, as a term, is much less funny than if said about davey and goliath or the muppets take the 1994 senate or what the fuck other movies that dont snidely mock puppetry and corny 60s tv shows on the kill whitey/vice magazine tip

_, Monday, 3 October 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

comradely regards,

kelsey

kelsey (kelstarry), Monday, 3 October 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

It's funny, because I was just saying last night that Trey Parker and Matt Stone should be found and smited good for being bastard people.

100% Nice (nordicskilla), Monday, 3 October 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

I'm taking that one statement for my new username, for sure.

Pizza cook man said that Dear Leader covort with Japanese women and burn 10 (nor, Monday, 3 October 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

boo!

should be:
Pizza cook man said that Dear Leader covort with Japanese women and burn 100 dollar notes lighting cigars like some capitalist evil one. The commentarot claim that Kim Jong Il is famed for parties, spending lavish and other capitalist dog activities!

Pizza cook man said that Dear Leader covort with Japanese women and burn 10 (nor, Monday, 3 October 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

The Progressive Left were due for a good mocking. People who were offended by this film are idiots. "Neo-con viewpoint" my ass.

That's it.

everything, Monday, 3 October 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

I don't think anyone was offended by the film on political grounds. It was offensively unfunny for my $10 - but hardly offensive in that 'oh those gosh-darned South Parkers sure are fond of tweaking my buttons!' way.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 3 October 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

Well, SOME people were offended on political grounds:

October 6, 2004

To Trey Parker and Matt Stone,

I remember a cordial hello when you guys were beginning to be famous guys around Hollywood at some party. I remember several times getting a few giggles out of your humor. I remember not being bothered as you traded on my name among others to appear witty, above it all, and likeable to your crowd. I never mind being of service, in satire and silliness.

I do mind when anybody who doesn't have a child, doesn't have a child at war, or isn't or won't be in harm's way themselves, is encouraging that there's "no shame in not voting" "if you don't know what you're talking about" (Mr. Stone) without mentioning the shame of not knowing what your talking about, and encouraging people to know. You guys are talented young guys but alas, primarily young guys. It's all well to joke about me or whomever you choose. Not so well, to encourage irresponsibility that will ultimately lead to the disembowelment, mutilation, exploitation, and death of innocent people throughout the world. The vote matters to them. No one's ignorance, indcluding a couple of hip cross-dressers, is an excuse.

All best, and a sincere fuck you,

Sean Penn

P.S. Take this as a personal invitation from me to you (you can ask Dennis Miller along for the ride as well) to escort you on a trip, which I took last Christmas. We'll fly to Amman, Jordan and I'll ride with you in a (?) 12 hours through the Sunni Triangle into Fallujah and Baghdad and I'll show you around. When we return, make all the fun you want.

everything, Monday, 3 October 2005 21:08 (twenty years ago)

Sean Penn IS gygax.

Pizza cook man said that Dear Leader covort with Japanese women and burn 10 (nor, Monday, 3 October 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

a couple of hip cross-dressers

what does this mean?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 3 October 2005 21:14 (twenty years ago)

And in conclusion, ideologues don't have a sense of humor. Good night.

The South Park guys, right?

pr00de, where's my car? (pr00de), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

Sean Penn rocks.

That KFA site is some sort of hyper-subtle satire, right?

Don King of the Mountain (noodle vague), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 08:06 (twenty years ago)

I saw it. It is stunning, mind boggling, that people often don't realise how left wing the movie is. It goes so left that it passes satire, whizzes past humanism so fast you could miss it, and lands squarely in the realm of total belief nihilism.

moley, Tuesday, 4 October 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

and comrades, not to forget: Kim Jong Il is really NOT a lonely man, he´s the father of the whole korean nation!!!

sffd, Tuesday, 4 October 2005 09:24 (twenty years ago)

Sean Penn has an urgent and key point. The problem is that he is also an insufferable twat.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 12:29 (twenty years ago)

i remember from threads at the time that people took the team's unequivocal support for right wing protectorate america at face value way too easily.

does the movie not strike anybody else as a little bit tongue in cheek to be right wing? i would say the movie takes the piss out of everyone pretty much equally, and it's refreshing to see holier than thou celebrities get their fair share as well.

but i did like sean penn's sign-off.

d.arraghmac, Tuesday, 4 October 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

i think the anti-right-wing satire in Team America was either too subtle (HA!)or just not good enough, really. like the film itself.

foxy boxer (stevie), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

I really think the DPRK should work on producing a high budget film in the future with the aim of it going to foreign cinema that could show a different perspective.

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

yeah, kidnap some more filmmakers. worked so well last time.

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Same comments re: right wing satire being too subtle as above.
Mind you, I can't critise it properly in terms of politics because I fell asleep half way through. That's probably a pretty damning review on a cinematic level though.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

NO DON'T YOU SEE THEY WANTED YOU TO FALL ASLEEP, THAT'S WHAT EFFECTIVE POLITICAL SATIRE DOES.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Who has jumped the shark more?

Kevin Smith or TP/MS?

At least Kevin Smith never makes me think he is a libertarian idiot.

Jonothong Williamsmang (ex machina), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

TA failed overall for me (in part; there was other stuff of course) for the same reasons conservative comics strips aren't funny, as discussed on the racial puppetry thread: humor doesn't work well if it's supporting status quo/not attacking those in power. granted i've only seen the second half of it, but TA was attacking mostly hwood celebs, which-- i dunno, surely people will rip me to shreds for this-- are they really "in power"? how much can matt damon, you know, influence foreign policy?

they get screentime on ET and tabloids, but i'm not convinced that those are good ways to reach lots of actual voters. (i may be wrong. what % of eligble adults voted in last election:

W i l l (common_person), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

less than 50, right? any way to find out whether ET watchers/tabloid readers are more or less likely to vote than pop-at-large? and isn't part of being a celeb watcher about contempt, anyway?) they have money and donate to their causes, but surely the business/corporate community dwarves them on that front. hwood celebs seem to me like possibly a less-deserving target compared to equally vapid, slogan-spouting, backstabbing religous/business/etc leaders.

no doubt this is because of my own narrow experiences in which people are more likely to get their political views from like a "famous" singer-songwriter, philosopher, or other kind of guru-- any of which would have made better targets of ridicule for me, even though they probably have even a smaller overall impact on voting than hwood celebs.

W i l l (common_person), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

It's the charisma that makes celeb(ritie)s so popular. Most businesses just don't have that.

A Nairn (moretap), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 01:20 (twenty years ago)

Sean Penn's permanent douchebag status was confirmed at the Oscars.
