i was in a bar last night in hampstead it was very posh and there was one fridge in there that didn't have any booze in it but just load of pint glasses that keep the glasses cool.

is that a GREAT IDEA? because it'd make the beer extra cool and the glass will be all frosty?

or a BAD IDEA? it's poncey for a start, and also if they serve you beer that is actually warm you won't be able to tell at first because you'll be feeling the cool cool glass that you're holding.

But... but... bitter is supposed to be served room temperature!

Freddy's off Flatbush keeps rocks glasses in a tray of ICE until you order, say, a gimlet, and they are not AT ALL posh, it's like an Irish-style neighborhood joint. My god, what a fantastic idea.

Mono in Glasgow does this. I like it apart from when my fingers stick to the glass.

In Lapland they have glasses made of ice. This might be true for all I know.

My local does it, and it's about as far from posh and poncey as you can get.

12 quid to go into ice bar and 6 quid for each "refill" that place sounds definitely posh

bitter is not, and never has been, supposed to be served at room temperature. it is supposed to be served at cellar temperature which should always be quite a bit cooler. warm beer sucks and only an idiot will tell you that it doesn't.

Hot beer can be nice though. MMM lager toddies.

Dude, in England, that *is* room temperature. (in my room, at least.)

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 3 October 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

the exception to the above rule is jamaican hot guinness

sfxxxx, Monday, 3 October 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to have a lager toddy this evening.
