The poet laureate of television has died of cancer. He was in his early 80s. Despite the efforts of Conan O'Brien and a certain jovial Amazon reviewer, there was only one Nipsey Russell.

Awww.

I hope there are some good obituary poems
He brought such cheer to all of our homes
Nipsy lives on
Though in body he's gone
And no hack's gonna satisfy our jones.

I don't know if he wrote his own doggerel or had a writer, but he never sacrificed rhyme for cadence or vice versa. I'm trying to remember what game shows he mainly did — Match Game?

RIP

The CNN obit mentioned Laugh-In, but I don't remember him being on that.

my dad saw him perform in florida a few years ago. he said the nipster still had it.

For some reason I always assumed that Nipsey, unlike Chris and Aimless, never worked blue. Am I correct in this assumption?

Although the cover of Confucius Told Me...., on the Humorsonic label, might lead one to think otherwise.

I thought he'd already passed away. Man.

Clearly resonates more with the masses than August Wilson (Did he get a thread?).

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 12:34 (twenty years ago)

No, he didn't. I thought about starting that thread also, but I didn't know enough about him so I was waiting for someone more qualified to start it such as yourself, Morbius.

I liked Nipsey.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 13:52 (twenty years ago)

on the Humorsonic label

is there a thread about comedy labels?

100% WJE (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

Dunno. But if there's not I think I know just the person to start one- you!
