i like zuckerman, the economic coverage, the comprehensive, bemused tone (& no tabloidy issue covers) but hate hate hate the blatant right bias- not just in editorials but constant features advancing rove's talking points as fact and treating skepticism of sharon as anti-semitism (they run those racist anti-muslim ads for that israeli special interest group with the flame logo who i cant remember the name of) and holding to ridiculous oreillyesque 'moderate' stances that treat ann coulter and hillary clinton as 2 sides of the same extremist coin

constant features advancing rove's talking points as fact

yep, I don't have much to add. Newsweek is my favorite American newsweekly--Time is practically People and I can't deal with USNWR's ed stance permeating all pages.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

newsweek was my fav back in h.s. but its pretty fluffy now!! not as bad as time but i kinda like my hard news to have a paleo-con bent, i can read past it most of the time

_, Tuesday, 4 October 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

I am a corny Economist snob.

M. V. (M.V.), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 01:11 (twenty years ago)

_, Wednesday, 5 October 2005 01:56 (twenty years ago)

In your heart you love John Leo. (I hope I'm lying.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

i thought we proved i was a republican already

_, Wednesday, 5 October 2005 02:01 (twenty years ago)

With a small r (but a big P, L, and C -- I have no idea why).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

I am also corny Economist.

giboyeux (skowly), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

i remember i first picked up us news & w.r. at some fleabag motel in spartanburg south carolina when i was like 12 or 13 and even then i was in love with the raw editorialized journalism and irritating buckleyesque wit they had

_, Wednesday, 5 October 2005 02:25 (twenty years ago)

does anybody here read national review (besides the online edition i mean)?

_, Wednesday, 5 October 2005 02:26 (twenty years ago)

I think the only time I flipped through an actual issue of NR was when they had some grotesque caricature of Mick Jagger on the cover back in 1988, presumably because the cover story was inviegling against the Evils of Rock Music. Given their timing I fully expect a cover story on How Hip-Hop Ruins the Nation at some point in 2020.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 02:29 (twenty years ago)

are you annie hall?

_, Wednesday, 5 October 2005 02:30 (twenty years ago)

La di da, la di da.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 02:35 (twenty years ago)

Different glasses, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 02:35 (twenty years ago)

ever flip thru 'policy review' at the newsstand? the words 'former editor tucker carlson' are enough to send a chill through a man

_, Wednesday, 5 October 2005 02:47 (twenty years ago)

Get William F. Buckley to kill the spider

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

ethan, you make THIS comment:

i like zuckerman

but then also make THIS comment

but hate hate hate the blatant right bias, including the canard that criticizing ariel sharon = anti-semitism (of which zuckerman is one of the WORST and MOST BLATANT perpetrators).

yer a real enigma sometimes.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 05:51 (twenty years ago)

i like zuckerman = i was in love with (...) irritating buckleyesque wit they had

_, Wednesday, 5 October 2005 05:56 (twenty years ago)

I agree -- I think out of the three U.S. News and World Report has the most hard news content, but the tone gets v. annoying to me after a while. Still, I'd much rather read that than Time.

O'so Krispie (Ex Leon), Monday, 17 October 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

but the arcade fire were on the cover of time!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 17 October 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

my favorite part of the coulter thread was when somebody claimed she was more politically relevant than ted rall because she'd been on the cover of time. yeah next up im gonna ask steve jobs, anakin skywalker and dr phil what they think about tort reform.

haha xpost with slocki

_, Monday, 17 October 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

Newsweek was my h.s. rag of choice from about '90 - '94. Started reading it right after Kuwait got invaded, and was able to easily drift thru my senior year AP Econ/Poli-Sci class b/c of it.

My father(noted fan of Rush Limbaugh) claimed the mag a tool of the Democratic Party.

Some of the newsweekly coverstories aimed at freaking out suburban housewives into buying the rag do get a bit tiring, after a while.

Heh. I once read Entertainment Weekly on a regular basis, too. Oh, what we indulge in our youth...

kingfish neopolitan sundae (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 17 October 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 17 October 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

_, Monday, 17 October 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)
