petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

cmon everybody! dont pretend you dont all live in brooklyn!

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

Where is it? The pub, not Bklyn.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 16:36 (twenty years ago)

34 Van Dyke St?

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

I had some pizza from there last week, it was pretty good. In the car service out of red hook we drove down whatever that main road is back to carroll gardens and it seems to be changing fast, as is Columbia street.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

but jesus christ, it was no Leonardos. Leonardos, the second best pizza in NYC. The BEST brick oven pizza in NY, completely un-promoted, now closed to be replaced by Dunkin Donuts. It was the place next to Citibank on Court St. The thinnest crust, yet still crispy, beautiful sauce, not too much cheese, it was a thing of beauty. Why oh why didn't the yuppied discover it? As much as I'd have hated seeing it turn into a Grimaldis/Lombardis tourist-fest, at least it might still be open.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

I like this plan pete

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

"beautiful sauce" is one of the most loving descriptions of pizza i've ever read. nice.

carly (carly), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

say, dan selzer/cbg/etal, would you like to see an awesome INDIE ROCK SHOW at the liberty heights tap room on 10/22? if i were playing a show there and then, i would certainly buy pizza for some ilxors. yknow. if.

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

Slyest promotional post ever?

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

im just sayin. if.

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

Slyest hypothetical post ever?

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

keep it bumpin, everyone.

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

it takes a whole lot to get me into Red Hook. When I booked Metal Urbain to play the Hook, I went. I go periodically to get my haircut by a woman who lives above Lillies, but that's about it. The Hook sometimes has a shuttle. Maybe you can use that.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

well, just think about it, everyone. in case such an opportunity arises. pizza IS delicious. and music IS fun. and you DO live in new york.

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

there you go with your math major brain, using logic! IF pizza = delicious AND music = fun AND you = new york resident, THEN you must proceed to point A at time B and rock the fuck out.

carly (carly), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

But first you must take the B61 to Red Hook.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

was I talking about italo-disco?

oh man, there I go again, bumping this thread to the top.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

that's funny, nothing on that web-page about any upcoming shows.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

what website?

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:02 (twenty years ago)

i mean, what web-page?

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

Oh, why not?

Bump.

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:04 (twenty years ago)

TS: pineapples - "come on closer" vs pluton & humanoids - "world invaders"

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

t/s: being italo-disco vs. being infp

were we talking about being infp?

carly (carly), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

I think I've found a thread that has a little life left in it.

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

you can talk about italo-disco all you want, it's not gonna make me trek to Red Hook to see an indie-rock band!

I'm a bit tired of Pluton so I pick Pineapples, but they're different enough to not have to compete.

what's infp?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

Briggs Myers?

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

myers briggs. introvert/iNtuitive/feeling/perceiving. we freak out most endearingly, when we freak out.

carly (carly), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

pineapples, guys. pineapples. our bass player is a poor upkeeper of web info.

and dan, you owe us. between me and pete we own virtually the entire acute catalog!

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

i just figure - you gotta eat, dan.

ts: pineapples the fruit vs. whatever you're talking about

pineapples the fruit are delicious.

carly (carly), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

pineapples on pizza - c/d?

carly (carly), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

C/D: Quantity over quality

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

fuck, i want some pizza

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

not to be a pedant, carly, but i think you might be more correct to say "pineapples the fruit is delicious." maybe we could get nabisco in here; he loves talking usage/grammar.

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

T/S: Pineapples: the fruit vs. Pineapples: the italo group vs. Batman: the horse!

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

WOMEN: Would you get turned on knowing that your man was an efficient if somewhat reluctant grilling machine?

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

pizza and beer would be nice, zack.

i don't need a grammar chaperone! but nabisco could come in to watch tv shows on dvd and enjoy our pizza and beer. perhaps with pineapples.

carly (carly), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

pineapples on pizza, with bacon or ham, is AWESOME

pineapples, the classic italo-disco record, often bootlegged, recently reissued by flexx.be, is AWESOME

people buying Acute Records releases, is AWESOME

people not buying ALL the Acute Records releases, not so AWESOME

me only going to shows of indie-rock bands who have purchased all Acute Records releases, the Crazy Rhythms mix CD, and regularly dance at my parties, not so AWESOME. But that's just the way it is, sorry.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

man, you are stubborn!

i am considering going to the show, and i also own acute records releases. maybe the pizza sauce will be beautiful?

carly (carly), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

what if i told you that if such a show existed, the band in question might have a post-goblin-simonetti-cum-messthetic aesthetic?

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

I said the pizza was okay. The beautifull sauce was at Leonardos. For truly beautiful sauce you'll have to go to Difara's.

what if i told you that if such a show existed, the band in question might have a post-goblin-simonetti-cum-messthetic aesthetic?

I would say "but I thought you sounded like the the Clean and the Fall?"

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

(pete might also be lying, by the way)

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

cmon!!! i non-pornographically used the word "cum" and also used internal rhyme in that (totally false, of course) description of yknow. a possible band's possible sound.

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

is messthetic a word wholly independent from aesthetic?

carly (carly), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

MESSTHETIC

Confounded (Confounded), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

http://www.messthetics.com/ is this awesome site thats a sort of hub for some portion of the acute stuff, at least the prefects-like stuff.

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

Chuck Warner is an old-school record dealer. I bought my first Desperate Bicycles records from him. I always assumed he started compiling comps the same way lots of dealers would make tapes of rarities so you could hear what you were paying 100 bucks for. Hyped2Death was a play on Killed By Death of course, and Teenline was power-pop, but it was the other 2 series, Messthethics, which is UK DIY, and Homework, which is the US version that are great and really influential. He got the phrase from Scritti Politti, who got it from some academic thing or other or made it up, can't remember.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

but there's still some stuff that has fallen through the cracks that you will get to hear when we premiere the Acute Records Singles Scene.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

whoa - you are starting to put out 12" stuff?? have you looked into the rights to any italo stuff? i would love nothing better than a copy of that pineapples song, but im a little shy about plunking down 200-300 bucks for it right now...

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

shameless self-pluggin' all over the world!

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

nope, not 12"s. or 7"s. More info later. Come on Closer by Pineapples was reissued by the record store Flexx a few weeks ago. http://www.flexx.be

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

btw do you all live in nyc or just coming to red hook as part of a world tour?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

OHMYGOD! youve made my week, dan!

nah - we live in DC; we're just coming up to play with a friend's band, before we hunker down to do some serious recording.

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

oh, cool. Was going to do more shameless self-promotion and ask why you don't come to my parties to dance to Pineapples. Yeah, despite popular opinion, I'm no serious collector, or at least, would never spend money like that on a song, no matter how good. I'm actually to broke to order the re-press now, but it's good to know it exists.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

yeah - TOTALLY would if i could. i guess ill have to make do with playing that record in my apartment all day. ooh. maybe ill try to dj out somewhere in arlington, and bring pineapples into the mix.

petesmith (plsmith), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

sorry dan, we only go to dance parties thrown by reissue-label owners who attend fake accents shows.

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

touché.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
alright, ILX. it's our first time to NYC, and it'd be awesome to see any/all of you there. it's free, and we go on about midnight on saturday. it'll be fun.

petesmith (plsmith), Friday, 21 October 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

if i totally freak out anytime soon, i think it's going to be in the direction of roller derby. it's surreal. my friend's team is the queens of pain. it's a new york borough/bondage/sex thing. with roller skates.

carly (carly), Friday, 21 October 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

Oh yes, the roller derby is fookin' amazin' and you should all go, tho I can't go tonight. The gurlz are hot, though, and actual violence sometimes results. Good times.
