Harry Thompson - Classic or Utterly Classic?

I thought his biography of Peter Cook was fantastically well written, and then I found out he was the main man behind Monkey Dust (which is IMHO the funniest British comedy since Blackadder), as well as producing and co-writing Have I Got News For You, Harry Enfield & Chums and Ali G.

His latest book and first work of fiction, This Thing of Darkness, has been nominated for the 2005 Booker Prize.

I'm saying utterly classic.

Get well soon Harry!

His Herge biography is FANTASTIC. Sadly, I think it's out of print.

Only 45 as well, damn shame.

This is extremely sad news. I was going to interview him about his Peter Cook biography in the wake of the tenth anniversary of Cook's death earlier this year but chickened out when I discovered he was the man behind Monkey Dust et al - starstruck - pretty pathetic and now I'll never have the chance.

RIP Harry - you'll be sorely missed.

Sad. I hope HIGNFY marks this in a decent way.
I felt the same when Humphrey Carpenter died.

the peter cook biog is fantastically well written and researched, a really inspiring book.

:(

not that familiar with his comedy producing (no-one mentions the 11 O'Clock Show!) but the Herge biog is indeed splendid (my copy: loaned and lost ten yrs ago) and the Cook bio v v good indeed (qualified by too much emph. on 'he was too depressed/jealous without Dud to ever focus again' type theorising-as-fact etc - but yes as Stevie says, excellent research and so readable).

If that novel's been published in .au I'll be looking for it tomorrow.
