s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 6 October 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure why, but I think s1ocki ought to be applauded for this. Unless the fucker just goes and syncs it up again later.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 6 October 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

I am listening to music at work for only the third time ever.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 6 October 2005 20:12 (twenty years ago)

i had to redo my ipod after a huge hard drive crash. i sucked all the songs from my ipod to my hard drive, and then i resynced, and itunes came up with an ipod playlist 'based on my listening patterns.' hello future

sunny successor (he hates my guts, we had a fight) (katharine), Thursday, 6 October 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

I feel this way constantly.

I lost 100GB of music when my hard drive crashed last month; I did what maura did, pull stuff from my ipod (and my wife's ipod) and saved a lot of it. My Itunes still had everything listed, so I spent last night making a comprehensive list of all the albums I'd really lost in the crash, that weren't on our ipods. Guess what? all the music I don't listen to on my ipod hella sucked. I can't be bothered to even go steal it all again (with the exception of six volumes of beatles bootlegs, which I do miss. otherwise....do I care that I no longer have Mary Lou Lord's Got No Shadow? NO).

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 6 October 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

fuck, i always forget spaces. throwing out all your stuff and starting all over is insanely freeing. DO IT. new stuff will come and it will be better.

sunny successor (he hates my guts, we had a fight) (katharine), Thursday, 6 October 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

I had a forced CD purge in early 1991 (ie burglary). I'd estimate about 4% of what I had before that is in my collection now. And I always keep what I get, though I sometimes wonder why for exactly this reason. (A list of what I had proved v useful though, for insurance ends.)

S1ocki, a suggestion to cleanse palate could be medieval/early-renaissance music. Try to avoid whatever (if anything) may give you the "oh-this-is-like-new-age-"oh-so-spiritual"" vibe (fuck Solesmes-skool Gregorian chant then), some nice complex ars nova perhaps. Pure vocal is probably best, otherwise it may be some secular songs too like(!) the pop (I assume) you're a bit burned out on.

The Vintner's Lipogram (OleM), Thursday, 6 October 2005 22:57 (twenty years ago)

i'll give it a try, TVL!

i mean... i'm not COMPLETELY burned out on "pop" (a pretty wide designation for my tastes, which are very catholic if i do say so myself).

and the other problem is i'm a dj w/a weekly residency!! so i have to sorta "keep up," a bit!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 7 October 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

Ooh full dance floor undulating to Pérotin's "Sederunt principes"! Perhaps not. :)

The Vintner's Lipogram (OleM), Friday, 7 October 2005 00:19 (twenty years ago)

hahaha!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 7 October 2005 00:51 (twenty years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 7 October 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

the pr00de abides (pr00de), Saturday, 8 October 2005 05:34 (twenty years ago)

I'm about to wipe my ipod because it's completely full, but i can't decide what to delete and what to keep. It'll be easier to start fresh.

langley schools music project, "space oddity": IT'S TIME TO GO!

haitch (haitch), Saturday, 8 October 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

I've been so tempted to do this for the last month now, but I know if I do I'll just fill it with the same old shit again in no time.

Perhaps it is time I wiped it. It's a shame ipod linux doesn't support the fourth generation ones yet, else I'd go for that too.

melton mowbray (adr), Saturday, 8 October 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

DO IT you will feel cleansed

Slumpman (Slump Man), Saturday, 8 October 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

Yeah! I'm going to give this ipod linux a shot too. Unsupported schmunsupported.

melton mowbray (adr), Saturday, 8 October 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

seventeen years pass...

So, this happens to me every now and then. My usual taste is wide open but fairly safe so what works for me when I’m stuck in a rut is using “palette cleansers”; playlists with a mix of antisocial genres (freejazz, noise, glitch, novelty music, avant garde mumbo jumbo, etc… ) that help me hit the reset button on “ordinary music”.

No idea what people who pretty much only listen to avant garde music do to cleanse palette. Listen to top 40 radio?

Is there a thread for songs/compositions you never get bored of?

This isn’t ILM
