Right then, what was your best PRESENT?

Tom, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

A bongo drum. Daddio.

DavidM, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

it was a BIG pile of books and book tokens - not very bling bling i'm afraid, but bling compared to the 2nd hand books i sually end up buying. NEW BOOKS mmmmmm also some HARD CASH which will probably go on new also not v. bling clothes. i am TOO SENSIBLE.

however, Santa did get me a pack of sparkly nail varnishes in all different colours, *all* of which i am wearing now. Emma would approve wholeheartedly of my bling ho nails i suspect.

katie, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

sistah becky found a new edn of CAPTAIN SLAUGHTERBOARD DROPS ANCHOR written and illustrated by mervyn peake (out of print since 1939): pirate captain falls in love with a Yellow Creature, gives up piracy and takes up idyllic island life.

mark s, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Multicoloured nails = hippy not ho.

My best present? A hand-made toy badger.

Tom, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

booze, especially some lovely port, a bottle of Chateauneuf du pape and a bottle of bison grass vodka. I forsee much drunkenness come new years.

chris, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

RickyT's best present is IN OUR FLAT, UNDER THE POINSETTIA. do not on any account open it until we are all at home Mr T!!

katie, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

a whole bunch of SWEATERS from my mom. mmmmm, sweaters.

M. Matos, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Most bling = chocolate mini-bar. Only three bottles left boo.

AP, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I had the least bling: we didn't exchange xmas presents. We never do.

helenfordsdale, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Two bottles hiss.

AP, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

A hand-made match box sized shrine to Stevie Wonder. Yes, it's as fun as it sounds.

K-reg, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But did anyone get any *surprising* presents? Ones that make you say "my word, I never knew X was so original/observant/perverted!"?

I didn't. But my haul was okay. I got a cool toaster that can also heat croissants and things from my grandmother (why would I want to heat things from my grandmother, boom boom). I also got the book of ROCK! from my dad, which will go with my new coffee table. Bless.

Mark C, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Least bling = I gave my sister "Mr. Rippington's Fart Putty".

AP, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

An inch in front of everything tied for second place (the Jazzactuel box-set, the dictionary of curious and interesting numbers, the mini petanque set, the big book of British pop charts, the Dualit sandwich cage, the Mingus CD, etc) is the magnetic-ceramic salt/pepper shaker in the form of a tennis ball, which comes apart. A lovely thing.

Michael Jones, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Record tokens.

stevo, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No surprises for me, due to parents being unable to work the computer I had to order all of my own presents.

DG, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Is this the thread where I can gripe how I bought my currently interstate boyfriend a big and very expensive FUNK music compendium, and then he called me up drunk to tell me how he had bought this very big FUNK music compendium and he was dancing to it and it was so cool?

I didn't get any particularly amazing/surprising parents, though my parents assisted in me purchasing a new discman, as my old one's lid had evolved into four distinct and detachable sections.

Tim, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am still a kiddy and thus only get presents from boring relations thus bestest present is MUNNY and chocolate. I got £1162.60.

Graham, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(I'd best point out that boringly it was from the insurance company to get my computer fixed (Apple wants that much), but still, I can pretend someone loves me that much)

Graham, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gift certificate at Amoeba converted into three Pet Shop Boys reissues = Ned happiness. The slew of new pants and shirts ranked right up there as well -- my family has excellent taste when it comes to getting such stuff, and it all fit too!

Actually, the best present hasn't happened quite yet -- involves some gift money that I will convert into buying a ticket for my next major jaunt overseas...

Ned Raggett, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Graham, nothing much changes re: presents as you get older except that more obscure relations stop buying you things. As far as I can tell, no one takes their place.

N., Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

$ = 3 CDs! And blingy earrings, only they're cheap because it wasn't THAT much money and they make my ears itch.

Maria, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

A bottle of GIN. Two dressing gowns, one blue and one pink. For those moments when I change GENDERS perhaps and need a correctly coloured slobbing about attire. A chocolate oranj. I got £100. I want Grahams money more. AH THIS REMINDS ME I haf a bottle of Xmas BEER in the fridge which I must drink before I return to London tomorrow. Ph34R m3 ect!!

Sarah, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

nancy b., Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

and a pair of cufflinks. Blingy.

DavidM, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"As far as I can tell, no one takes their place."

Dastoor running Welthorpe close in Unbearable Poignancy Stakes.

Michael Jones, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I got £1162.60.

I want graham's family to adopt me! I mean, come on.

Probably my favorite is the Hello Kitty fleece blanket, it is keeping me warm through this cold snap.

Nicole, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I want graham's family to adopt me

And i want Nicole's blanket (read my next post Nicole - though if Nicole's parents want to adopt Sara we can all have our Christmas wishes come true). I got a grand total of £25 and a mall bookstore Illustrated Encyclopedia of Science. Thanks gran.

Graham, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

a pedal

di, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

All my presents were my best ones:

A mini torch projector with three different slide discs with all varieties of dinosaurs on them. Projects a picture up to two feet wide! Adjustable focus!
Also, rainbow striped over-the-knee socks.
Many items of clothing, all black, all fancy.
And bangles.
An old skool Kodak instamatic to make art of the snapshot genre.
And a plane ticket to Auckland.

rainy, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wanted a pony. But since all my gifts came from my amazon.com wish list, and since amazon.com are too fucking STUCK-UP to sell ponies online, I was shit out of luck. Damn you, Bezos! Damn you and your goddamn practicality! I woulda paid the UPS charges, honest!

The best gifts I got are the ones I'm obviously going to get the most mileage out of, what with me being a new homeowner and all: the bread machine, the cordless drill, the IKEA sofa slipcover and the Zagat's guide and the AIA Guide. The PalmPix camera will also undoubtedly come in handy once I start blogging again.

Michael Daddino, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I got everything I asked for, so that was nice. Mind you I only asked for three things. But! I am also going to be getting a new CD player and burner next week!

Two days after Christmas I got my course results (About. Fucking. Time.) and I passed! I have an MA!

rosemary, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I want graham's family to adopt me! I mean, come on.

It's a good deal...even if it is insurance money. :-)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

but i still have three presents coming to me.

at last count...seven, actually. but it hasnt been boxed up yet (i know, i know) so more's the possibility.

i have a feeling at least one of them is going to be quite exciting.

"just hook it to my vein."

jess, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ned, the nearest non-chart record store to here is, well, I don't even know where, that's how far away it is. Probably easiest just to go to London, and I always used the interweb if I couldn't get it in Virgin, or more likely didn't bother. Hence I, and I ONLY, am allowed to moan how my CD collection is not representative of ver REAL me. Or something.

Though I'm sure she has plenty already. And she wouldn't have to live with them, she could just, um, send a bimonthly Nicole newsletter, an turn up for Christmas morn. Still in?

Graham, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"once I start blogging again"

GET TO IT

Josh, Friday, 28 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hence I, and I ONLY, am allowed to moan how my CD collection is not representative of ver REAL me. Or something.

But I wasn't accusing you. Was I? ;-)

I got a new satin bedspread and sham, 2 new suits a new robe, and a new lounging suit as well as a new iron & new electric can opener & knife sharpener.(Well needed!) I had my couple for dinner Christmas day, and had a great time & guess what? I'm still here. :) My son wife and grandson joined us for the day today to have lunch since they entertained Christmas at their home this year. :) It was a great visit for all!

Gale Deslongchamps, Saturday, 29 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Congrats on the MA Rosemary!!

I got to have three Christmas dinners, each with different set of aunt & uncles, and then two Christmas BBQ's. It was wonderful.

Best present was a garlic crusher from my bro but while I was at mum and dad's I went through all my old stuff and found the fountain pen my late g'ma gave me, the lovely pack of cards from France that a distant relly gave me as a child, lots of cool clothes from a decade ago and my dad gave me a pack of cards illustrated by an artist we know and a copy of "Principles of Internal Medicine" - but they weren't Christmas presents.
