ts: going to sleep early vs. staying up all night

going to sleep early WOULD be classic but i just can't force myself to do it. i'm more of a "stay up, drink coffee in the morning, stay awake as long as i need to, and pass out from exhaustion later" sort of person. besides, tv is better in the middle of the night.

Every time I go to bed super-early (last night I went to bed at 9pm or so, I actually fell asleep watching Horizon) someone calls or messages me in the middle of the night and then I wake up the next morning wondering if it was all a dream...

I love going to sleep early sometimes, it feels just so luxurious. Only problem is that I have to be absolutly wrecked to do that as I'm a total night creature. I'm much better at staying awake than at waking up in the first place but it is easier after a good nights sleep so I'm going with... um... going to bed early, if only cos it's so unusual!

Kate, weren't you watching the Mirren Elizabethathon???

Masked Gazza, Friday, 7 October 2005 07:40 (twenty years ago)

No, I missed the first bit of it so it seemed pointless to try and catch up halfway. Besides, Horizon was having this whole thing about Omega 3 and OHMIGOD IS BEING A VEGETARIAN BAD FOR YOU?!?!? thing which I felt compelled to watch even though I'm allergic to fish.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Friday, 7 October 2005 07:41 (twenty years ago)

staying up all night is classic if you don't have to work the next (few) day(s) + are getting the s3xx0r all that time

otherwise yay going to bed early.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 7 October 2005 07:41 (twenty years ago)

i just watched an infomercial about omega 3! i've been taking glucosamine/chondroitin supplements; if i take omega 3 supplements too i may turn into a fish!

It was actually quite interesting from a scientific standpoint, about how important Omega3 is in terms of the brain's makeup. But I wish they'd got a bit more into other sources that weren't fish. Especially algae/seaweed. (I think I can eat seaweed. Vegetarian sushi is fine for me.)

Yeah, sure it's great for a lot of things but nothing is going to the THE WONDER DRUG OHMIGOD etc.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Friday, 7 October 2005 07:48 (twenty years ago)

I mean, that seal blubber mince looked WAY appetising, yeah.

Felt sorry for the poor vegetarian girl with the fish chef father, though. Honestly.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Friday, 7 October 2005 07:49 (twenty years ago)

But I wish they'd got a bit more into other sources that weren't fish.

studies have shown that vitamin c and vitamin e are effective anti-inflammatories. so are ginger and st. john's wort.

and apparently curcumin, the yellow pigment in turmeric, is an excellent antioxidant.

Anti-inflammatory?

The things that they were saying it was good for were not its antiinflammatory properties. First off, it was its anticoagulent properties - that it's effective in fighting heart disease. Second, that the brain is 75% fat and at least 10% specifically Omega 3. So it was linked to both intelligence and depression.

However, I was bit confused by the "Japan has very low depression rates" because doesn't it have one of the highest suicide rates in the world?

Paranoid Spice (kate), Friday, 7 October 2005 08:01 (twenty years ago)

omega 3 rebuilds cartilage, leading to a decrease in osteoarthritis and other joint pain.

in japan people commit suicide before they have a chance to get depressed!

Mornings are a terrible time to be waking up..so staying up late of course.

Mingus Dew (Mingus Dew), Friday, 7 October 2005 08:17 (twenty years ago)

So fucking OTM. I believe the only reason I am usually happy instead of always deeply depressed is that I get up as late as possible. These late nights might be doing my body for shit though.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 7 October 2005 09:34 (twenty years ago)

You know you're getting old when you enjoy getting up in the morning and getting a whole day of sunlight.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 7 October 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

Ha, OTM. The last few months I've changed completely from staying up late to getting up early. I'm a morning fan, now.

I've never stayed in bed past 11 am a day in my life, even with the worst hangover.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 16:31 (eighteen years ago)

if you haven't, you haven't experienced the worst hangover

remy bean, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

I hate lingering in bed – I either slept or fucked in it. Move on.
