I am considering Malta as a destination for my next summer holiday.

History, culture and Maltesers.

Have you been?

yeah

Me too. Wasn't much to see, really. Nice country, but I quickly became bored with it.

The boredom is a worry. We'd be going for two weeks and Mr Pumpkin is like a child in his demands. I'd hate for him to be dragging along behind me whining "I'm bored - told you we should have gone to Las Americas."

Good, judging by the response it certainly doesn't seem like a popular destination. I'm liking the idea more and more by the minute.

Well, culturally/historically there wasn't much to do, in my opinion. It's cheap though and the climate's quite nice. If you like sunbathing, then it's a good place. I was there about 17 yrs ago (yikes! that long?) and not that many people visited it then.

It had very exciting WARS in the late middle ages, when the TURKES invaded it to try and defeat the KNIGHTS OF ST. JOHN who were basically PIRATES who preyed on the Turks' shipping in a RANDOMLY CAPITALISED manner.

Yeah there's loads of churches etc, it all looks very nice but I'm not the biggest culture buff. I like to look at pretty things though.

My favourite thing is EATING, I see Sliema and St Julians have no less than 218 restaurants. Wow.

I do like to sunbathe but I like walking, swimming, boating and shopping.

I stayed in Sliema/St Julian's a couple of years back - it's a really friendly, nice place. Sliema is more mellow seafront bars and cafes, St Julian's nightlife is banging if a little scary. There are loads of boat trips you can do, almost all of which are great, especially the Blue Grotto/Blue Lagoon trips.

Not the best beaches around there but there's good eating. Do you like rabbit?

Oh, and I mean scary in that I heard Informer by Snow an above average number of times around there, not in the sense of being actually scary.

oh yeah... apparently there are no beaches whatsoever on Malta.

My parents got married in Malta.

I have never tried rabiit, I see it's a bit of a speciality there.

One or two of the resorts have beaches I'm led to believe, Mellieha Bay is one of them I think.

Sand isn't really my thing at all. For years I thought a holiday was all about the beach, but little kids running past kicking sand over my newly oiled body has knocked that impression right out of me.

The boat trips look fab Matt, I'm still trying to convince Mr Pumpkin.

I'd love to go. Not a popular destination for US folks, seems more like a UK destination.

I wrote to their tourist board a few years ago and they sent a shitload of stuff, you should drop them a line. I ran into an old italian guy in Mexico once and told him my intention of visiting, he said he was bored stiff visiting there. That didn't dissuade me, though. I want to see the megaliths.
