I just asked a cute girl out for a drink this lunchtime. . .

and I'd been agonising about it for aaaages - should I send the email, shouldn't I send the email, have I phrased it right, etc etc. Then I thought fuck it, worst she can say is sorry, I'm busy, or some other poor excuse, and I was getting positive signals last week, so I thought lets send it. So I pressed Send, and had that moment of terror as the emails gone, it's outa here, no hope of getting it back. 30 seconds later I get an Out Of Office, saying she's back tomorrow. What an anti-climax.

I don't know if this is a good or bad outcome.

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

at least it wasn't auto-forwarded?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

Asking people out is terrifying enough without the vagaries of technology to further the anxiety. Auto-forwarding = office rumours = KILL EVERYBODY

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

well, you did opt for the work email option!

COmputers are less scary than real life.

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

Ouch! So will you extend your offer to lunch tomorrow?

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

That's the plan, yeh. At least I can go and get a haircut today.

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 10:33 (twenty years ago)

don't do it!!! you'll end up with "just cut" hair tomorrow omg wtf

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 10:54 (twenty years ago)

contact the person on the out-of-office and ask them out instead

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 10:57 (twenty years ago)

The worst outcome would be: she says yes, you go on a date, she puts dog's poopoo on your body, wraps you up in clear plastic (or clear with red polka dots) and then puts you on display in the office, invites all her friends and family to point at you giggling "he asked me on a date! WTF!"

nathalie, a bum like you (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 10:57 (twenty years ago)

just-cut hair is dud.

N_RQ, Tuesday, 11 October 2005 10:58 (twenty years ago)

(xpost you'll need to move to another country though if you want to survive the embarassment. but with internet and all, it'll haunt you forever...)

nathalie, a bum like you (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 10:58 (twenty years ago)

Cheers guys, you're really helping my ego here.

xpost- well, when SHOULD I get my hair cut then? And why is justcut hair a bad thing - I thought "just out of the salon" was a GOOD look? Oh, it's all too confusing.

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

get it cut a week before the date.

N_RQ, Tuesday, 11 October 2005 11:10 (twenty years ago)

i guess it depends on the place you go to. and the hair i guess. if it's like mr topper then you'll need like at least a week for it to resume normality (unless you like your hair to reflect a SxE lifestyle, with straight edges) but i'm sure there are decent places where they can cut your hair like all stylish and stuff straight off.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 11:16 (twenty years ago)

A week?!?!? In these fast-moving times, I don't think I can plan a date a week ahead.

I suppose if you've got floppy indie hair then you need a wait for it to get natural, but since I've got ultra-short hair (or I have when it's cut, duh) then I dunno if I need a cool-off period.

I'll wait till tomorrow and see if I get a response from her, then decide on haircutting schedules.

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

Ultra short should be fine then, I wouldn't worry about it

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

get a wig
