Dear Mr. Koster!
Congratulations to Your marvellous styled new Riefenstahl-Homepage! So far, it seems to me, it could really develop to one of the best sites!
Thank You for the fine Leni-Wallpapers, I use them already some time!
And thanks also for listing a link to my own Riefenstahl-Homepage. I already renewed the link to Your new site in my link-section.
I wish You very much success for the future!
With regards,
Helmut Schmidt

Leni, has been my idol for years, can't understand why she was so persecuted for her activities for the Reich, and the scientists like Braun, were not when their activities actually resulted in DEATH to the allies, Leni only made films, and none of her films glorified the Army.

It's good to know that there are at least a few people who appreciate Leni Riefenstahl's genius. I believe her name will eventually come to be revered alongside the names of D. W. Griffith, Sergei Eisenstein, Carl Dreyer, and others whose work shaped what we understand today as cinematic art. Whenever I look at one of her films I'm struck speechless by the sheer beauty that she brought to cinema. She has given the world some of its greatest art and has been poorly repaid. I wish her well.

Leni is a wonderful lady and a beautiful friend. I consider her my friend because she has done many things for me including a wonderful gift of her writing inside a book which I asked her to autograph. I admire her work and her staying power!

Wonder page. A tribute to a great artist. However, I am troubled by the far, far too many "Oops, reached a page that is not yet done," or whatever. Sincerely hope that this is not a sign of a project that has stalled out, failing, and will die with the proverbial "this page to be completed at some time in the future" which never, never seems to come.

That would be a very, very sad thing to happen insofar as this web page design and layout started out so good. Please finish the project and get this web page together and up to speed. Leni was one of the most creatively active women of the 20th century. A woman who worked and played very hard. When one looks at the filmstrip that runs down the left side of this page and sees Leni in all those scenes that would epitomize action.... it would seem a great diservice to have her image and legacy associated with a web page that could the epitome of inaction. Getting realy tired of clicking on links on this page that do nothing but lead to apologies beginning with "oops". Please continue with this great work and finish it.

Thank you

always felt sorry for Leni Riefenstahl. Her filmmaking remains some of the most beautiful pieces ever recorded on celluloid, and, as a filmmaker and photographer myself, I appreciate what she did to make beautiful films. It's a pity her art will forever be infamous... but despite what the Nazis did to her, I will always attest to her incredible talent and skill.

Oh, yes. As a matter of fact I saw him on the stage when I was in Warsaw once before the war. What he did to Shakespeare Riefenstahl we are doing to Poland.

Oh Really?, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 13:49 (twenty years ago)

ok so from what i remember she went through a period of critical rehabilitation in the 70s, and everyone (especially feminists? feminazis haha) forgave and forgot and pointed to how she took those photos of the nubians so she couldnt be an evil racist! (some dude in the guestbook is all about how she reached out to the 'outcast africans') but then susan sontag said.. wait a minute guys. and now most ppl think shes evil again

does anyone here get off on all the beauty in her movies? (i never saw any of them)

i'd hit it. in any way i can. only she's dead. so i'd be flogging a dead horse.

we did this on the anne coulter thread.

N_RQ, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

there are a lot of racist women in this world

strng hlkngtn: what does it mean? (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

haha why is riefenstahl resuscitated and endorsed in the name of feminism but ann coulter and margaret thatcher and condoleeza rice are not? right is right, right?

_, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

the difference is 20-30 yrs of improving feminism!

Elaine Dickinson: Would you like something to read?

Hanging Lady: Do you have anything light?

Elaine Dickinson: How about this leaflet, "Famous Female Film Directors"

in the '70s. even now, really.

N_RQ, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

another difference is accountability in genocide

_, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

possibly a factor with rice (and thatcher? not coulter!)

_, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

as far as i know the critical rehabilitation of her is in a cut-rate griffith mode, ie there are a couple of shots/sequences in Triumph of the Will that are technical firsts (but nothing of the landmark Birth of a Nation is) and the uh message is that much more vile. there's a sequence of hitler's plane landing that i think was the first to use some aerial techniques.

a dead boring film, actually.

geoff (gcannon), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

er "we should execute their leaders and convert them to christianity by force" or whatev

geoff (gcannon), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

ok so maybe 'rescued by rover' pre-dates 'boan' but fact is even cinema's innovators have paid tribute to dwg's innovation -- not so with len-e (the sexists!).

N_RQ, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

ok i once read that she continued making films thru ww2 but the prints were lost but then also i read that she severed ties with the 3rd reich in 1940, which of these is true?

_, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

anyway griffiths has more blood on his hands for sure

_, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

i don't think either of them literally have blood on their hands, but that said, the nazis killed more people than the kkk by a factor of c. 100,000.

N_RQ, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

i dont think the amount of blood on your hands is only represented how many people killed

_, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

but yeah very good point enrique neither of them 'literally' have blood on their hands, well done

_, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

yeah ok, it's not a call i'm gonna make, slavery vs holocaust + global war.

um people killed by whom though? did dwg contribute to slavery? no. but does he have 'blood on his hands' w/r/t slavery? kind of.

N_RQ, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

even if it isn't just about people killed, the nazis still own the kkk, though, in the evilness stakes.

N_RQ, Wednesday, 12 October 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

Say, why DID the nazis have the hard-on for filming everything? Not just the basic recording of events, but they went nuts with full on studio gear for everything?
