Obviously it's not Ken Barlow...

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 11:17 (twenty years ago)

Who could be next?
James Blunt?
Dido?
Busted?

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 11:20 (twenty years ago)

Dido's a Trotskyite, isn't she?

Nöödle Vägue (noodle vague), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 11:25 (twenty years ago)

William Roache might not be a pop star but he's definitely a Tory

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 11:28 (twenty years ago)

Which is probably why the script writers made him a labour councillor!

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

The tories must be hoping for a change of image and want "hip youngsters" voting for them like with the britpoppers voting labour.

Could it happen?

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 11:30 (twenty years ago)

ugh

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

There's always Rachel Stevens!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

There is so much that is frightening (or amusing, depending on how you look at it) about that story. The poor reporting - of course Gyles Brandreth isn't famous for showing his midriff. The tick-the-boxes nature of the candidate - young! Gay appeal! Girl appeal! And the sultry, soulful picture of Gyles is frankly disturbing.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

Good God.

The worrying thing is, I know people that would vote for him because he's rather pleasing on the face eye.

This, and Rob Lowe attempting to become a Republican Senator. What's going on? People I have perved over should be LEFT WING!

hobart paving (hobart paving), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 11:12 (twenty years ago)

Nick was a lame character anyway.

O'so Krispie (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)

I was hoping it would be Len Fairclough.

(I wasn't, but I can't remember the name of the person I was hoping it would be - looks like he was in Status Quo - "Chris Quentin" in real life - that's who I was hoping it would be.)

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

Len Fairclough was deceased some time ago.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

Brian Tilsley? Nick's Dad?

Tag (Tag), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

Is there any Street actor who isn't a Tory? (Les Battersby maybe 'cos he's been in Ken Loach films, but who else?)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

Schmeichel?

O'so Krispie (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

now that is desperate

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 12:57 (twenty years ago)

I would like to formally register my disappointment in Rob Lowe. A Conservative MP is bad enough, but a Republican Senator? That's plain wrong.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

I always liked Toby and Josh more anyway.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 14:19 (twenty years ago)

Mavis has to choose between a tory mp and labour mp to not jilt at the altar.
Victor vs Derek.

Which would be in what party?

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

No way did Brian Tilsley sire a shirtlifter.

Perhaps this was the storyline.

Is this "Little Nicky"? Why, it only seems like yesterday, etc.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

Oh my gosh! I always liked Adam Rickett.

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

he has no business

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

The only other Coronation Street actor/pop star I can think of is Davy Jones out of the Monkees (or, stretching the definition of "pop star" Michael Ball), so it stands to reason it was going to be Adam Rickitt.

Cathy, how can you have liked Adam Rickett? Was that the shame that made you leave the country?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

ten months pass...
uh-oh

That's not fair, he's using a sonic screwdriver now

dud Hab 'C' dEva (Dada), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

To go back to the original point of the thread, did anyone actually watch Adam Rickitt when he was on Question Time? I'm presuming he is actually articulate and in some way intelligent, yes?

Is the objection just that he's a Tory? Having a career change/using your fame for your political ends/being too goodlooking to be taken seriously as a MP shouldn't really be grounds for mocking him?

(I have taken zero interest in his political career to date, but then again, I've taken zero interest in any other people on any other party's prospective candidate list either)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 19:10 (nineteen years ago)

i saw him but had no idea who he was till afterwards

i'd probably vote green if they put east-end hardman ross kemp up for election but he's probably too busy with gangs, adhesives and suchlike

The Real DG (D to thee G), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 19:29 (nineteen years ago)

Is the objection just that he's a Tory?

er, yes? what better reason do you need?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 19:53 (nineteen years ago)

I'm just wondering why one person's diversion into politics is more roffleworthy than anyone else's. Regardless of party. Or would people not be laughing at him if he was on the Labour shortlist?
