sad in a qualitative sense.

jess, Monday, 31 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yes. i am genuinly sad.

chaki, Monday, 31 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm feeling a bit dour. That's why I'm gonna frustrate myself playing Shockwave Backgammon.

See, this is why I think New Year's the worst holiday of all. Tons of people being depressed about not being able to be in the middle of pure social ecstacy over some celebration based purely on a goddamned appropriation of a single time unit. Fuck it. Celebrate your own New Years based on your own measuring system.

Brian MacDonald, Monday, 31 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

as opposed to sad in a quantitative sense?

Sterling Clover, Monday, 31 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Of course. You can be sad about the Red Sox still under the control of the Duke, the Jets sucking ass, and not being able to eat sushi tonight. That's a lot of sad, but it isn't all that bad. THEN you've sadness over unrequited love, or existential woes - one sad, but, boy, that's a nice Rolls Royce you're moping in.

Please get together folks... It's almost time to ring the New Year in here.

I just spent 6 hours dancing with those indie gurlies you know I love so much.

If it's any comfort, none of them were dancing with me.

I had a pretty miserable evening, actually. The meal with my family and LC was yummy, but then LC, FatNick and myself ended up at LC's flat with a bunch of mutual aquaintances who were really fucking boring, they were just smoking weed and not chatting or anything. We tried to drive them out by playing Joy Division at them but they couldn't be bothered to face the cold, and so my evening descended into painful boredom. I even had to put up with them playing Massive Attack. Grrr.

DG, Monday, 31 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i stayed in tonight.

it was very calming.

i like that.

Jess, hugga hugga! Touch your screen and feel the love. I hope you ALL get what you want this year.

I went to a massive house party (massive = both house and party). It was fine for a time till after the midnight chimes struck then paople started puking, shouting and endlessly arguing over what music to play. This went on till 5am. All in all I wish I had stayed home alone and watched The Wicker Man directors cut edition on TV. Bah hum and bug.

DavidM, Tuesday, 1 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My flat was invaded by a pile of people I didn't know, so I escaped to Alix and Starry's flat with the intention of watching some videos. But this plan was thwarted by Alix's VCR failing to work. So instead we drank, jumped up and down to Five and Thingy and watched The Wickerman. It was great.

my new years eve: Watched TV, ate sweets, watched Smashing Pumpkins videos. Spoke to friends on phone. 12:38, went to bed. It was a pretty good night!!

james, Tuesday, 1 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I went to a party in some drug buddys basement. only knew about 2 people but it didn't really matter. they had decks and strobes and stuff and we were off our face so it was quite fun. better new year than I've ever had before.

Ronan, Tuesday, 1 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mine was similar to DavidM's, except with the addition that I was Djing Hip hop at the party.

I crashed on the living couch and was awaken this morning at 9am to the sounds of a kitten playing soccer with beer bottle caps on a hard wood floor.

We played with discarded floss, my shoelaces, and more beer bottle caps before I got up and went back home.

I stayed in with Isabel, who was ill but feeling better by the time I arrived. We played the Playstation and read, and let her rabbit run round the house. It was peaceful and very pleasant - a great New Years though next year it'll be back on the party circuit for me.

I spent most of NYE in the G**d M*x*r, though unable to face the prospect of being in there when it turned midnight, we bundled out into the street and saw in the New Year talking to a tramp with a fluffy dog. The tramp promised me that 2002 would be my year, because I'd given him a quid and he believed in karma.

Later I was in a chipshop were someone ran in and sprayed everyone with pepper spray.

Despite all that, it was probably the best NYE I've had in a long time

I thought they condemned that place as 'No Longer Hip Enough to Live' circa the death of Britpop, 1998.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 1 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, well they should have done. Unfortunately, when they rang last orders, it wasn't quite as final as some may have hoped and so it was pardoned at the eleventh hour. In my defence, we did only arrange to meet there because Everyone Knows Where It Is, only people didn't turn up until later than they said etc etc etc and before we knew it, it was nearly twelve.

One of my New Year's resolutions is never to go back to the Good Mixer for as long as we both shall live.

jamesmichaelward, Tuesday, 1 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know where it is.

DG, Tuesday, 1 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's near Camden's comic shop. That's one weird time-warp pub. more parkas than is strictly legal.

, Tuesday, 1 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This one was the first nice NYE that I've ever had. Awwwwwwwwwww.

Sarah, Wednesday, 2 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

mine was OK but i really must remember not to drink wine and to eat some proper food, as i did that thing where i ranted on and on about i remember not what, then got grumpy and headed off to bed at about 1.30am. next year = eating dinner and then drinking vodka. SLOWLY.

katie, Wednesday, 2 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

First time I've been out on NYE and enjoyed it pretty much, apart from me thinking in Northern pricing and thus not bringing enough money for alkiholl.
