Happy New Year everybody! :)

i really do love all you guys. ye who put up with my rampant miserablism, my seemingly constant whining, my excesses of personal information, my general ignorance about most things. ye who have given my writing chances, who have offered words of encouragement, who have become those to bounce ideas and opinions off of, who have taught me more (per capita square inch by volume) than any other source this year. in the absence of real friends, i could do a lot worse for fake ones.

happy new year, you rabble.

11:56 am! I am to go to the shop to purchase milk! I approach all tasks with joy! What an adventure it shall be (kinda like Lord of the Rings).

Much to do this year! have fun!

Came back from get-together with friends, involved Moet et Chandon and a fiendish Japanese spirit, not sake. Now 4 am. Tired, Radiskull sleep now, happy new year etc.

i am celebrating by acting like this is any other night of the week: doing nothing.

We rolled up to our local more in hope than expectation, but they had a spare table and the meal menu right there so we went for it. We were in Newcastle that morning, and drove 6 hours home. Because we are away over Christmas we tend not to get NYE invites, or is it we are so antisocial? I

Anyway, one daughter had invites, the other is just too young (along with her friends) but next year.. So, will us two be left behind next year? Or will we suddenly make loads of friends such that we get loads next year? I guess we could just throw one ourselves, but hey hey..

Mark G, Friday, 1 January 2016 22:41 (ten years ago)

I got to the bar around 3 I think, which was about 6 hours early. Commenced texting bullshit to my two friends, who replied with the usual mixed bag of veiled disapproval, astonishment, and bemusement.

calstars, Friday, 1 January 2016 22:43 (ten years ago)

After I'd had my functional limit, 3, went to chill in the park for awhile, then had to pee again so had to go back to the bar and clandestinely make my way to the men's room. After that I headed home, where a whole lot of nothing transpired until around 1030 when I went to sleep. At midnight I was woken up by revelers on rooftops screaming the countdown to happy new year.

Happy new empty moment in time year, ILX!

a passing spacecadet, Saturday, 1 January 2022 00:50 (four years ago)

I cose to celebrate this fucking occasion by watching the grimmest film I could find in the "unwatched" folder, I guessed NITRAM as the director made the GRIMMEST FILM OF ALL TIME previously. And yeah it was a great thing but not what I'd recommend to anyone feeling emotionally fragile, in fact I already forget the reasoning behind this choice. But 2022's gunna be 2021 new game+, like your reward for completing it is gunna be you get to do it all over again, but HARDER, and the constant bullshit will be more constantly bullshitty. So no stupid platitudes, just a different reason to drink heavily, but you get to do it on your own this time. And my PA is isolating, no one to drive me to a shop so we'll have to sober up sometime eh? Hopefully make it through Sunday afternoon when there will prolly be company, if I drink this last litre of voddy tomorrow that will leave me a sociable amount of beer then we won't have to to ugh speak with others for a few days til the cigarettes run out. Best wishes to youse all anyrate, for what it's worth...

fireworks are so pointless and wasteful. The best NYE entertainment was when that walrus turned up at Scarborough harbour and had a sleep at the front and they cancelled the NYE fireworks display as to not disturb him. When a big crowd turned up to take pics he woke up and started wanking himself off.

One thought for the forty plus people who died last night in Crans-Montana (Switzerland) and the 115 people burnt, most severely, after a fire started in the underground and people were trapped. Gruesome start of the year.

Naledi, Thursday, 1 January 2026 18:35 (one week ago)

I had a holiday there in I think 1994, lovely little town, really terrible stuff.

Dance Yourself Dizzy To The Music of Time (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 1 January 2026 19:18 (one week ago)

NYE is really a dangerous night. And now I know about flashovers, which is a really scary phenomenon where a localized fire suddenly spreads to the whole room burning once the accumulated heat/gas has reached a critical point. This is what happened in this case.

Naledi, Thursday, 1 January 2026 21:07 (one week ago)
