Sorry, my flat mate's not home and I want to tell someone that I have somewhere to live, at last, when I get back to Sheffield, with a spare room for musical shenanigans, and with lovely people.

Also my DJ collective just got a new regular gig every sunday in a really big bar.

I've done nothing to make these things happen but it is good news all the same.

I've got really excited and gone a bit manic.

Ed, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Congratulations! Hope it all goes very well!

No major good news right this second, but things are generally looking up -- I see my girlfriend in ten days' time :-) :-), get to met a slew of Fine and Good People soon, have a great UK trip with a side visit to Paris lined up, and when I get back, Depeche and Radiohead concerts within a week. *And* it turns out I won't miss Soft Cell because the tour got postponed, and I should have a condo purchased shortly after I recent from my trip. So hurray for general merriment.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Hey that's cool. Where are you playing I have a mate in Sheffield, may be worth making the trip down.

As for good news none really. Tried making bread today for trhe first time and it turned out pretty good. Sorry cab't come up with anything better.

Billy Dods, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I am quitting my damned job and moving to Kansas City to be with my girlfreind and live comfortably for once.

Mike Hanle y, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Paul just got a Kaoss Pad. I might have to give up RAWK and become a DJ now. It is the koolest thing on earth.

masonic boom, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Kaos Pad = coolest thing ever Air FX = cooler thatn the coolest thing ever, like kaos pad but you play it by waving hadns over it.

However, both so amazingly cool you could keep a pork chop in one for a year or something. Have fun and don't fight too much over it.

Ed, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I talked to the liason comitte and they found the dudes. The bar has banned them and we are considering pressign charges.

anthony, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Anthony, that ROCKS. See? See? I knew it would work...

suzy, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

OK I got the DJ thing wrong, it is not all of us just Sally, but it is super cool anyway.

Ed, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Anthony, that's such good news. its nice to see the system work for a change.

Ed, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Hurrah for Anthony! Sink a beer tonight in his honor.

Ah, Kate, you have discovered the KAOSS PAD goodness? Ask Brian about it via the Secret Channels, for he has one and has lots of fun with it. We'll get you being an avant-garde techno artiste yet. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Rock on, Anthony! Sometimes the law is Good.

I just received word that we've been approved for our mortgage. ROCK!!! Somerville, here we come!

Dan Perry, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I think I lost a couple pounds. That's the closest I have to good news today. Today sucked. Oh, I bought a nice new skirt.

Ally, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Well not meaning to come across all Ally here, but I got the GRATE- EST jacket at the weeked. Only a tenner too. And played a gig with Lincoln who were also GRATE. Put on a couple of pounds mind.

Steve.n., Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

So we went to the bar tonight. Davids idea . We are going to get all the fags in the neighborhood to make it the corner pub. I was surpised at how kind the cop was. Knew how to handle the sitution, made sure we were okay. I felt like a kid who got lost and got an ice cream and a hat for it.

If someone is drinking for me , any wheat beer will do.

anthony, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

anthony's news is good. like someone else said, wow sometimes the law works for the good.

duane, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I fear all I have to hand is a dark red Moretti. But that's damn good stuff. Cheers!

Ned Raggett, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Way to go, Anthony ! I'm glad to hear that.

Patrick, Monday, 16 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I did good in my exams.

james e l, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I bet it wasn't an English exam: I did WELL.

Emma, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I think he was pulling the 'cutely ungrammatical' card, Emma.

Nick, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Yes, that's what I was trying to do, is it my day for thinking before I post or what?

james e l, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

There is nothing cute about bad grammar, OK?

Emma, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Affirmative.

james e l, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Yes, dumbass.

Pete, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Now I feel like a grammar dominatrix!

Cool! (Until I make a grammatical error....)

Emma, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Whip me everytime i leave a particple dangling emma.

anthony, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Does using lower case instead of upper case count as bad spelling or grammar?

What the hell. I not i, young man.

Emma, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

TOday I had a nice Sherbet enema. It was..lovely!

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Just egomaniacally read enema as Emma. Freaky.

Emma, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

That statscock will soon lead me over you emma

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Ah but Emma you missed Anthony's howling lack of comma error.

You are now demoted from grammar dominatrix, or not maybe since punctuation may not count as grammar, it didn't in my school. I'd offer to be the punctuation fairy but I've no idea what a semi colon is for.

Ah mike you swine your awake that means I won't be able to jump you today.

Ed, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I refuse to participate in this stats cock bollocks.

Anthony: sp: humility. Can I now be the Spelling Madam? With my very own dictionary bordello?

Emma, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Is sherbet in the UK different from sherbet in the US? (I think this question was asked before.) Because a sherbet enema sounds like UNHOLY TORTURE to me; packing frozen deserts into the poop chute = DUD.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Not as bad as a sherbert Emma sounds. Mind you it means that if she got annoying at home I could scare her away with a stick of liquorice and promising her a good licking.

Pete, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

UK sherbert is a yummy kidz sweet, consisting of white powder with lots of chemicals (no, not coke) which you stick one of the following into: 1. your finger 2. a lolly 3. a liquorice stick. It comes in what we Limeys quaintly call a 'sherbert fountain'.

Emma, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Liqourice stick in sherbet fountain had a hole running up through the centre, through which you were presumably supposed to suck up sherbet. Did anyone ever succeed in finding a way of accomplishing this that got more than 1 mg of sherbet into your mouth and none billowing around the back of your throat making you cough like a mentalist?

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Whew! US sherbet is a variation of ice cream and could cause nothing but regret if deployed to the colon. You all seem to be describing what we call Lick-O-Maid. (No, I don't know why the company decided to call it Lick-O-Maid. Perhaps it was a cute inversion on lemonade; perhaps it was meant to indoctrinate scores of American youths into the adult entertainment industry. We May Never Know.)

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Goddammit, even *this* thread eventually descends into food and perversion! Not that I mind, but the last few days have seen more egregiously wrong suggestions per post than I've ever encountered.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

When my work stress goes up, it manifests itself in srange ways.

Besides Ned, YOU were the one hinting about me doing perveted things to a kitten on the Iggy Pop thread... ;)

Ed, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

You were the weirdo who asked for one. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I asked for a kitten because kittens are cute, dammit. I am not a pervert.

I HAVE GOOD NEWS!!!

After months and months of getting rejection letters from labels (is there a similar quote about not being able to call yourself a musician until you can paper your walls with rejection letters?) during yesterday (even after the technical disaster that was our gig) we actually had no less then THREE record labels express an interest in us. I don't want to get into details in case it doesn't pan out and we jinx ourself by discussing it, but it's still way cool and way flattering.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

we may actually have a place to live in sans mould come tomorrow - we fill out an application tomrrow morning, but the flat has window locks and blinds - amazing in this fucking town, and only 170/week. yay!

Geoff, Sunday, 22 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Where abouts Geoff.

anthony, Sunday, 22 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

anthony - about 3 streets over from where we are now. We filled out the application this morning, and were hoping for a response this arvo, but i called back around 4.30 pm and the agent hadn't had time to process it...fingers crossed.

Geoff, Monday, 23 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

You are in Sydney right ? Moving 3 blocks is cool because it can be done in subways buses bicycles and your own two feet or four.

anthony (thanks for yr concern) - would be great to move in Sydney via subway, but nearest train station is 15 blocks away anyway, we got approval for the flat this afternoon - yay oh fucking yay - + letters from people writing that our mould problem is structurally caused, not by tenants...things are beginning to turn around

It is called Lust Poems as a response to Frank O'Hara. I am going on a 3 week pacfic sojurn in Novemember . My Art History Degree(s) can be put towards a Masters in English . So after 3 years i will have two masters . My husband can hem jeans as well.

After a heart-stopping scare that might have delayed our condo closing to the point where we would have been homeless for TWO MONTHS, our mortgage broker has pulled through for us and made the necessary things happen so that we can go ahead and close this week. HAPPY DAY.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 24 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

congrats to dan and anthony (man, i thought my life was busy) - ally - do we need another thread to discuss you and ramon, or is this one ok? Do you guys like listen to the new red House Painters album together and stuff? (swoon - love is so cute....)

Geoff, Tuesday, 24 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Dan you should paint your walls bubblegum pink. Congrats !!!

anthony, Tuesday, 24 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Thank you all, and congrats to Anthony for helping people learn that being an asshole hath consequences.

One of our downstairs neighbors painted their living room brown. All of the furniture in that room is bordello red. It is officially the BEST ROOM EVER. I'd love to paint the walls cool colors, but bubblegum pink might be a bit too much. I really want to paint the dining room navy or forest green, though.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 24 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Navy is boring. We are decorating this pace and had our guy look at Catherine Denuves apartment in Umbrellas of Cherbourg. WE wanted that look.

anthony, Tuesday, 24 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Anything I pick also has to be approved by my wife, who is a wonderful person and staunchly conservative when it comes to decorating. She wants to the whole place in complimentary floral patterns a la "Country Homes", I want to do contrasting sold colors with cool trim. Somehow, a Balance will be reached.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 24 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Dan, I think the bordello room is fantastic. That's how I want all my rooms to look.

Geoff - should we have another thread to discuss it? Maybe, hell, why not, but no, we do not listen to that album together; in fact I think some sort of disaster would occur if we did that. The bad news is I got a guy who is really into me who isn't my boyfriend, who I want to hang out with as a friend, and I'm quite nervous that saying that to him will make him not want to hang out as a friend and think I'm just trying to screw him out of free drinks (he's a bartender).

Ramon's back in town tomorrow, that's my good news. He is, apparently, going to do my laundry for me cos I'm so so sick. The very thought makes me die laughing.

Ally, Tuesday, 24 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

My rent is only going up twenty-five bucks this year. Last year, it went up $75 because it is gentrifying. I thought I would have to move, but now I can stay in yuppieville, which means that I am close enough to continue riding my bike to work. Also, I am getting a big fat raise soon, and since my rent won't be eating all of it, I will be taking a trip.

Kerry, Tuesday, 24 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I have some good news. This afternoon, 6 years into our relationship, Katinka and myself got married. The ceremony was in English + Dutch and v. simple. We entered the hall to Eno's 'Deep Blue Day' and are now leaving for a holiday.

I am tired, but deliriously happy. Rejoice with me and be glad.

Dan Perry, Friday, 27 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Oh, and Nicole? I can mention KI whenever I Want as long as my wife never runs across this board. HA!
