Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:03 (nineteen years ago)

It's hard for me to say I'm sorry.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, the "Trapped In The Closet" video is indeed brilliant. Particularly when it makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

Amanda, you're the meaning in my life. You're the inspiration. You bring feeling to my life. You're the inspiration.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

I have those videos but haven't watched them yet! Maybe tonight, if Maddie works until 1 a.m. again.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

Thank you for figuring out the Chicago 20 issue!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

Kenan, you're a hard habit to break.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

his abuse of poetic license is sure sumthin'.

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

That is easily the ugliest Chicago album cover so far.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:08 (nineteen years ago)

It has all of their sappiest hits on it too.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:08 (nineteen years ago)

Do you know what? Maybe I've mentioned this before, but I don't think I could name you a single Chicago song. Not a one. According to AMG, they're the best-selling American rock band after the Beach Boys, but somehow their entire career has slipped past me. Surely there's a song that I know but just never realized was by Chicago?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:10 (nineteen years ago)

You would know "25 or 6 to 4" if you heard it.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

0 of 5 people found the following review helpful:

Look away and do not buy this cd, July 26, 2005
Reviewer: music lover (usa) - See all my reviews

Why do people say that this bands used to be good in the 70s to me they always sucked but this stuff with the horrible peter ceteri and the other people who sang on these songs after he left to tourture people with a solo carrer makes that stuff sound like sargent peppers. That part at the end of hard to say i'm sorry is especially lame there were just trying to convice us that they rock but they don't. You know this music is not hip and cool if clay aiken plays it at home while he is entertaining his boyfriends.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:12 (nineteen years ago)

nick your halloween thread is sparkling. very funny stuff over there.

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

You would know "25 or 6 to 4" if you heard it.

If the title is the central lyric in the song, it doesn't sound familiar AT ALL.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

You know lots of Chicago songs, I guarantee you.

You know "If you leave me now / You'll take away the biggest part of me / oooooOOOOOOOOOoo oh baby please don't go..."

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

TRUST ME.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, you would definitely know that one. I know a humiliating number of Chicago songs. You would know "If You Leave Me Now" too.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

25 or 6 to 4 doesn't really figure into the lyrics, iirc.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

DOESN'T RING A BELL.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:16 (nineteen years ago)

The only Chicago song I know is "If you leave me now"...

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:17 (nineteen years ago)

Which song goes: Saturday! In the park! I think it was the 4th of Julyyyyyy?

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

That would be "Saturday in the Park," I think.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

Oh. Oops. I think this whole time I thought that song was 25 or 6 to 4. That's Chicago, though, right?

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

"Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?"

No bells at all? These are really famous songs, and classic rock radio staples.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

http://www.topiclink.com/gameshows/images/alextrebek.jpg

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

25 or 6 to 4 is the one with the descending horn part that goes:
DAH DAH DAH DAH!
DAH DAH DAH DAH!
DAH DAH DAH DAH!
DAH DAH DAH DAH, DAH DAH DAH DAH!

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

I've never really listened to classic-rock radio.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

This is the stupidest thread ever.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

And I say that with great affection.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

As I was walkin down the street one day
A man came up to me and bla bla bla blablablablalbaaaaaaaaa
Does anybody really know what time it is? (ba ba baaaaaa)
Does anybody really care? (ba ba baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa)

That was from memory, thank you. Thank you very much. I'll be at this Potbelly all week from 11-1. Thank you.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not entirely sure why I posted that Trebek photo.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

Can we get this thread renamed to "This is the thread where we try to get jaymc to remember various Chicago songs, for probably the third or fourth time."?

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:25 (nineteen years ago)

jaymc, you're not missing anything except for Crazy Train played every hour and people who call in requesting "Teenage Wasteland."
The other day a girl called in asking for Wild Thing by Tone Loc and they refused to play it because it wasn't on the current charts.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

Every time we start a new thread we have to go through this with John... the next time you are at our apartment, I'm breaking out the CHICAGO BOX SET on VINYL that I somehow inherited from my parents and you are going to SIT and LISTEN until these songs not only ring bells, but are as familiar to you as the sound of your own breathing.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

Is it the third or fourth time? Gah. I don't even remember having this conversation before!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

It's okay, I don't know any Chicago songs either. I've correctly guessed them on the radio though, from the horns and the sound.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:27 (nineteen years ago)

I think I confused Chicago and Blood, Sweat and Tears for a while.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:27 (nineteen years ago)

I'd make you a CD, John, but I can't really stand this shit.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:27 (nineteen years ago)

Just wait til Saturday, when we tie you down and make you listen to us sing ALL OF CHICAGO'S GREATEST HITS. Followed by America's greatest hits, Boston's greatest hits, and a marathon singalong of "Dust in the Wind."

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

That's like me & Steely Dan!

xpost with the horns & The Knowing.

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

All we are is dust in the wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

xpost to Kelsey from the other thread re: stray hairs: Yes, three kind of under my chin and I hate them.

Were you Loopsters aware of this website? It's a very handy reference: http://lunchintheloop.com/

Also, I generally don't eat at Potbelly's because all the yelling really stresses me out. I just want a sandwich! Eating lunch shouldn't make me feel like I'm in trouble for something!

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

BS&T >>> Chicago

Boston's greatest hits is just that one album, isn't it? Such an awesome album.

I'd rather have teeth pulled than listen to America.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

(xpost) Amen!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:29 (nineteen years ago)

You need to segue Dust in the Wind into Carry on My Wayward Son.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:31 (nineteen years ago)

I could probably sing you, from beginning to end, with very little prompting, the following classic rock bands' greatest hits collections:

Chicago
Blood Sweat and Tears
Boston
Steely Dan
America

I could only do a representative sample of Kansas.

I would make all you people classic rock mixes, just so we can all be on the same page, if I ever thought you'd listen to them.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:31 (nineteen years ago)

Paunchy, Will I see you SAturday???

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:31 (nineteen years ago)

Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher
But I flew too high

Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
I can hear them SAYYYYYYY...

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:32 (nineteen years ago)

Kenan and John, "Ventura Highway" is A GREAT SONG.

Can I be an honorary Chicagoan like Mandee? Mississippi sucks.

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 19:32 (nineteen years ago)

Like a jerk.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

I got that too... was teh funny :)

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

(Not just 'How do you feel about Michigan?', but 'How do you feel about the U.P.'?)

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:08 (nineteen years ago)

I'm tellin' ya . . . unless it's a neil young song, I am lost.

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

Heh. I'm planning on getting a tattoo of it either on my forarm or across my shoulders.

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

So, pretty good I guess (it's home, just not ready to head back there yet.)

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:12 (nineteen years ago)

How old/young are ye, Dan?

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

by the way, all things considered, i think you're at one of those difficult crossroads. but, it is a crossroads to get together & have a beer over! so we should (everyone, really) do that sometime. i tend to enjoy having a beer over eating food i shouldn't (like onion rings), so I am partial to that (though I should not be since the holidays are a-comin' . . . )

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:17 (nineteen years ago)

27, to be 28 in Feb..

I like meeting up for beers. Aside: I went to the Underbar for the first time last night (some friends just moved in behind the place) and it was pretty cool.

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:33 (nineteen years ago)

where's that? I'm partial to the Edgewater Tavern because:
1. They have at least three Rouge beers on tap (& usually one is on special for $3)
2. Their onion rings are great
3. It's near my house

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

It's on (under) the Western overpass between Belmont and School (I think) street. Just up a ways from the Viaduct Theatre. They have 3 Floyd's on tap, but no onion rings.

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

My friend Patience (yes that is her real name) went to Michigan Tech in Bio for her MS and boy howdy can she could tell you stories about the UP. #1 is live close enough to campus because there's no way you can shovel 5-6 feet of snow to even get to the car from Nov-March.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry I didn't catch the fact that you lived there already. My reading compehension skills are sucktastic today.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

Hahaha... I have a theory that shoveling snow instills that great upper-Midwestern work ethic. Or maybe just back pain.

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

Drinking beer while eating fried foods is the height of decadence.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:56 (nineteen years ago)

I would add "in my pajamas" to that.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 19:58 (nineteen years ago)

You wear your pajamas to bars?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:00 (nineteen years ago)

I would add "and recieving oral sex" as well. Perhaps "on top of a pile of money."

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:01 (nineteen years ago)

No, but I would rather be at home in my jammers than in a bar.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

I like drinking at home, but there's a ritualistic appeal to going to a bar, ordering a beer and sitting across from someone. I like quiet bars.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:23 (nineteen years ago)

Yes. I agree.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:25 (nineteen years ago)

The only time I drink at home anymore is when I come back from a bar shit drunk and want to continue.

Jeff-Beetle (Jeff), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I did a little of that the other night. Except I wasn't quite to shit drunk yet, just had the taste for more. By the time I went to bed I may have been piss drunk, I'm not sure.

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

I drink at home, um, a lot.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

Last night I went to a play opening in Evanston with two old friends, and we went out to eat afterwards and all I cared about was going somewhere a) where we could hear each other and b) that wasn't going to close. And that's pretty much my criteria for bars, too. I love quiet bars. I love the Hopleaf at 5:30 p.m.

Manda, I will get you a deep-fryer for Christmas so that you can indulge yourself in your jams.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

(And the Mexican place in Evanston where we ended up was so f'n good and so empty, and the fajitas sizzled like a basket of snakes.)

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

I was just startled by a cardboard, life-sized Ornaldo Bloomps standing in a darkened office.

I HATE YOU, BLOOMPS.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:49 (nineteen years ago)

Ahhhh. I used to have a fryer. I bought one when I was 12 or 13. I thought for sure I would make tons of fries and donuts in it. I did for a while. I'm just a homebody, that's all. A cheap one.

I think that's why I had so much fun at the party on Saturday. We were at a home and it was quiet and not smoky and I could hear and talk. It was fun.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:50 (nineteen years ago)

We've got a tiny deep fryer, but we only use it for beignets. And on one glorious occasion, giant double-battered shrimp for po' boys.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

MOVE TO NEW ORLEANS ALREADY, BRASS BAND FAN.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

Is it bad that I want to, but not, uh, right now?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

Oh right. That.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:58 (nineteen years ago)

I'm going down in a few months, though, and getting married there sometime.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

Is it the Legolas cut-out? My friend had one of those and it used to scare the beejeezus out of me, alone in the corner of the dark spare room. But sometimes we would put on Frank Sinatra and dance with it, to amuse people.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 21:00 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, yes, that's the one.

I may print out the ORNALDO BLOOMPS FOR PRESIDETN image and paste it to the cutout.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 21:19 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, ILX is back up.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 21:22 (nineteen years ago)

In case none of you noticed.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 21:22 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, sweet.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 21:26 (nineteen years ago)

Awesome, I love ILX.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 21:32 (nineteen years ago)

Is that meta-love?

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

You're twisting my melon, man.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 21:35 (nineteen years ago)

He's gonna step on you again.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

I am 20 minutes away from stalking Bob Pollard. That's right.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

Oh shit that's tonight! I forgot!!!!

Amanda, I will look for you in the book store, but I might not make it there.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

The guy there told me that it's downstairs, but I don't know where...I just know that I'm going early and I'm looking around, in case he's in the children's book section and I can ask him questions there instead of in front of a bunch of people. I know it's dumb, but I'm nervous. I feel like a linguistics gangsta.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 21:46 (nineteen years ago)

Make sure to call him "bitch" so he knows you're tough & not messin' around.

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 21:52 (nineteen years ago)

see you tomorrow!

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 21:59 (nineteen years ago)

Bye!

Prancing Animals (coco), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 22:18 (nineteen years ago)

Does this storm blowing over mean we can start a new thread, already? This one is ridiculous. But I'll tell you a secret: I'm well and truly tired of Chicago album covers.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 03:44 (nineteen years ago)
