so i bought generations3 yesterday but am having problems with getting any online action going. On both Half life and CS, (and also Opposing forces), it tells me that my product is out of date but when I try and update it then tells its already up to date.

help!!

whoops. ILGers play CS Source, which uses the HL2 engine.
not quite sure about the updating stuff, i assume HL1 uses Steam these days, yes?

i'd heard that the original HL was better than the second one, I'd played HL2 on Xbox last year and loved it. But not all that impressed with the single player HL.

they're both great imo.
i recommend source, it looks much nicer, doesn't have bad scale issues and is (a little) easier to play. nothing stopping you getting warmed up on CS 1.6 though.

Source is nice and shiny but 1.6 still feels like the better game imo (and that of the vast majority of CS players, going by the Steam stats).

Steam is short for Steaming Pile Of Shite.

CS and Half Life won't run without Steam, unless you can find the old update files to get Half Life to whatever version it was last running at before Steam (1.109 or something), even then you won't get CS 1.6 running.

Download Steam from here: http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=getsteamnow - it should pick up that HL is installed on your machine then use Steam to update all the games you have in your Gens pack.
