Yes - classic classic classic! I would welcome vigilantes with open arms, bake them cookies and provide warm gloves and balaclavas.

We NEED vigilantes - preferably of the caped crusader variety.

I do apologise - I fear I may have killed your thread.

Maybe I would have been better off quoting key passages from the link in question. Besides, it was Tom's idea to put this on ILE.

I'd have thought this would have inspired debate.

You just can't tell.

LOVE Vigilantes are definitely classic.

What the heck is the link about?

"Faceless Shaman" posts:

Now, when I'm not trying desperately to succeed in my job, reading comics, or working on my art, I'm a small time street vigilante.

No joke. Every week, I put on a coat, hat, and a latex mask and do the detective thing.

Anyhoo, last week I finally got enough dirt on this Pot dealer to turn him in. And so I did so. An hour ago, I stopped by the weekly place where the potheads meet him to get their fix. No one there. At all.

This means I bagged this low life. This means no more pot distribution in his neighborhood.

BOOH-YAH!

The weed of crime bears bitter fruit...

Peace

I read the rest of the thread. I feel bad laughing because, TBH, I actually feel some kind of sneaking admiration for the guy. But still. Because it's on a DC comix board, I can't help but picture him dressed up like Fathers 4 Justice or something.

"Latex Mask?????
Describe, please." - - - - - - - - - It's kind of like Rorschach's mask in WATCHMEN.

When I originally designed it, It was just a blank space (faceless), but I soon found that bright lights, when shined at the mask, would make the whole thing go white, blinding me. So I re-designed it, adding eyeholes .....

I mean, honestly. Caring about your neighbourhood, joining a Neighbourhood Watch/other street level organisations, turning in drug dealers, making the place safer for residents... all classic.

But dressing up like a superhero while doing it just makes me laugh like a f*cking drain.

Oh yeah, "take a long look at yourself in a mirror and ask yourself one thing: Am I a total tool?" - - - - - - - - I ask myself this everytime sneak into the bushes and put on my kabuki mask, or every time I contact on of my agents. Beleive me, the night of the bust I was skakeing in my little tennis shoes.

But now I have my answer. Yes, I'm a tool...but I'm the right kind of tool. Maybe my town needs more tools.

So, am I happy with myself?

...well, yeah, I guess I am.

This guy basically proves Tuomas's argument about superheroes being inherently fascist, huh?

Vigilantes who take on people in positions of power: classic.
Vigilantes who go after small time criminals and those they think are morally inferior: total dud.
