Some friends of mine just opened a bakery in Chicago on Chicago, just off of Damen (across from Edmar and close to both Atomix and Lorraine's). It's called the Bleeding Heart Bakery. I know I'm biased and all, but it's really great.

That looks AWESOME! Right up my alley (metaphorically, but they aren't physically that far either).

I went there the other day and bought a few things and, being unbiased, can say that it's great and I'm really excited to have them in the neighborhood.

oh, addendum: kind of pricey.

I agree it looks awesome... and pricey (based on the site). I saw it the other day, a couple of days before it opened, so it was still all covered up and I couldn't see inside. I've been excited about it since I read the bit in the Reader. My boyfriend's dad, upon seeing the sign, simply said, "YUCK!"

I just asked Alexis (of K1tchen Ch1cag0) if she knew about B.H.B., and it turns out that the gal has been using the kitchen all summer, and Alexis had nothing but effusive praise for her.

The lemon bars are especially tasty.

And the soups, salads and sandwiches are actually pretty cheap.

Wait, why did N's dad say "YUCK" to the sign? Because of the name?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

He was afraid the pastries involved heart's blood.

I am excited to try it!

Yeah, because of the name.

Lloyd, are you a lurker here? Or did you just find the board randomly?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 2 November 2005 19:49 (nineteen years ago)

I've been lurking for quite a while. Years, actually, but under different names. But I did just move to Chicago last February.
