For once I'm on the side of Buffy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 5 November 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, can it hold a candle to...

Silence, the Musical

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 5 November 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

You can live forever but you will have no feet.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 5 November 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

Welcome to the Hotel NewOrleansia.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 5 November 2005 22:35 (twenty years ago)

weak Ned, WEAK.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 5 November 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

Ah, you're just jealous.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 5 November 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

Like, I mean, if I'dve gone up to one of my goth mates at a club, six months ago and said "hey.. hehe..get this for an idea... Lestat by Anne Rice - AS A MUSICAL". As I crease up laughing, my friend is unamused. "But wait, it gets better - the music is by ELTON JOHN! Ahahah!"

Then my friend would punch me in the nose.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 5 November 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

OMG, I don't care, I'm so totally seeing this. It's so very, very gay, but I'll be front row, centre when this hits Melbourne.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Sunday, 6 November 2005 01:38 (twenty years ago)

nip!

W i l l (common_person), Sunday, 6 November 2005 04:58 (twenty years ago)

so very, very gay

(Anne Rice + Elton John)musical theater

We're all a little gayer just for looking at the poster.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Sunday, 6 November 2005 06:00 (twenty years ago)

I have to confess Mikey I might just be alongside you in the front row hahah :D

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 6 November 2005 06:20 (twenty years ago)

That cast looks disappointingly Hugh Jackman-less.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Sunday, 6 November 2005 07:38 (twenty years ago)

I will be very disappointed if someone doesn't come up with some showtune lyrics for the finale of this musical very soon.

moley, Sunday, 6 November 2005 08:16 (twenty years ago)

Attn: vampires

Learn how to button your shirts!

That is all.

naus (Robert T), Sunday, 6 November 2005 08:32 (twenty years ago)

The one in the left corner wears tight leather briefs.

Nathalie, the Queen of Frock 'n' Fall (stevie nixed), Sunday, 6 November 2005 11:11 (twenty years ago)

Holy shit, this sound totally awesome, even though Lestat the book was so boring I gave up on it halfway through (should've realized that after already being bored by Interview with the Vampire, one of the few cases where the film improves upon the book by cutting away the tedious parts). But Lestat the musical, composed by Elton John sounds like it could be the best thing ever!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 6 November 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah the one in the left corner has a Jon Bon Jovi shrine.

Nathalie, the Queen of Frock 'n' Fall (stevie nixed), Sunday, 6 November 2005 11:39 (twenty years ago)

Dud Undead

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Sunday, 6 November 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

I like blood!
I like blood!
It's not dud in the least any more
I accept
I connect
With the cold evil need at my core!

There was a time when I was afraid
To bite into the neck of a man or a beast
But I'm changing my ways and I'm happy to say
I'm a vampire so gay and I'm ready to feeeeaaaast

Because.....

I like blood!
I like blood!
It's not mud in my eye any more
I am loud
I am proud
I'm a deathless and strong carnivore!

No more will I retire
To my room with a sackful of rats
I will step out in style with my cane
And the finest of haaaats

and declaaaaaare....

I.... like.... bloooooooooood!

*curtain and intermission*

moley, Sunday, 6 November 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

six months pass...
A not-triumph!

Sir Elton John's vampire musical Lestat is to close on New York's Broadway after just 39 performances.

The £7m show was savaged by critics when it opened at the Palace Theatre on 25 April after a brief run in San Francisco. It will close on Sunday.

Audiences last week were at 53% capacity for the show, based on the best-selling novels of Anne Rice.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

Aw, what a shame. I would have seen it, had it come to London. :-)

(Would it have done better had VVM or some such goth shite done the music instead?)

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

oh yeah, i was gonna bump this thread back in april when i saw a poster for the show. ah well.

tehresa (tehresa), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 16:00 (nineteen years ago)

scnnr drkly (scnnr drkly), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

Really, folks, it's all about that moley post right before my revival.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

theres this great, bitchy talk of the town peice, in the new yorker a few weeks about taupins desperation in rewriting the book

anthony easton (anthony), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

And here it is.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

he took them to Elton John, who was at home in Atlanta. John composed the score in a feverish two-week burst. (“I was sucked dry,” he told the Telegraph.)

Bnad (Bnad), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

Interesting how this is one cult/popular book where all the crossover attempts have been utter and arguably embarrassing sh!t.

pleased to mitya (mitya), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 18:32 (nineteen years ago)

I had no idea this even existed!!!!!!

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

You can live forever but you will have no feet.
-- Beth Parker (marthasminion...), November 5th, 2005.

Thing that made me laugh the hardest.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 19:00 (nineteen years ago)

i know one person who saw this when it premiered in SF (before going to NY; it closed here pretty quickly) and she said it was terrible. but the sets were good.
