San Francisco FAP this Friday/Saturday -- Ned and Arthur invade

Or something like that. Both of us are going to be heading up on Friday (possibly with other LA types but this is unconfirmed) and so let there be FAPs, food, etc. All suggestions welcome.

There is a vague sort of chance that I will be spending Saturday night in Davis performing with the Gang Wizard (all are of course welcome), so I was thinking either a Friday night get-together or a Saturday noon/afternoon one would be the best thing. Post ideas, threats, expressions of contempt etc. here.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 November 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

I think I'm free on Friday eve. Saturday, probably not. It would be cool to meet you, if we could arrange it.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 7 November 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

Rah. Doubtless something will occur! I'm also still waiting to hear back from my sister as to what kinda party/thing she's planning.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 November 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

If there is a Friday evening thing, I will drive up and join in. If it's Saturday, I will ponder changing my schedule around etc. etc.

I will leave ideas (such as where to eat) up to the SF natives since I haven't spent much time in the city lately. I have no threats or expressions of contempt to offer.

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 02:20 (twenty years ago)

Friday eve is good for me.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 02:50 (twenty years ago)

Roxor.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

haha. law of eternal balance. i'm gonna be in LA

jaxon (jaxon), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 04:16 (twenty years ago)

You punkass. Read our minds next time. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 05:04 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, further update after talking with my sis is that Friday night is definitely on -- she has plans for a small dinner get-together earlier in the evening but will come out to wherever FAP fun is had, so you'll all get to meet two Raggetts at once -- CAN THE WORLD SURVIVE? I'll definitely be up for a combined dinner/FAP thing wherever we go, Mike's sent me his number so the LA bunch can be in contact directly if plans mutate last minute.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 05:21 (twenty years ago)

So Ned, what's the word?

mikef (mfleming), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

Thunderbird.

The word is everything's still a go for Friday night...so let's hear some thoughts as to when and where and what, etc. I don't know your crazy town, your habits and customs confuse me!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

(Are adam and gygax on ILX vacation?)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

Good question. I haven't seen them post for a while.

Where are you staying, Ned?

The Management reminded me of a previous dinner engagement so I may have to dine and then see you later.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

No worries, M., it'll happen as it does. I'll be staying with my sister, who lives just south of the Mission District on Precita.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 21:19 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps we should FAP post-prandially in the Mission, then.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

Rah! It's easy enough -- my sis is a happy Zeitgeist semi-regular but I wouldn't mind trying something different. Suggestions for a meal in the Mission itself of course also welcome -- I adore Esperpento but all options are cool.

Remy and Vic send their best to all BTW, but cannot attend this weekend.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

Mission's fine with me. Burritos are always a good choice down there. Or Pakwan? Or a burger up at Big Mouth?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

Pakwan and Big Mouth? Details plz.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

Pakwan's a pretty good, very cheap Pakistani/Indian restaurant on 16th and Valencia. Big Mouth is a very good burger place on 24th and Mission.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm, both very tempting. I will confer with Arthur if he doesn't see this thread first.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

...said conferring happening tonight. I am away from computer access after tomorrow morning, so -- Alex, can you send me your best phone number to reach you late afternoon? Is Kyle aware of this?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 November 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

I am catching up with this thread, can join for dinner in the Mission (any of the suggested places sound fine).

Is there a target time (maybe there will be after Arthur weighs in...)? I could randomly suggest aiming for 7:00pm dinner ... but earlier or later would be fine by me.

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Friday, 11 November 2005 01:14 (twenty years ago)

Paul, I just left a message -- we're aiming to be in the area around 6 pm, based on when we hope to be out of LA. Could easily be sooner or later depending on traffic. That being the case, 7 pm sounds good as a dinner time, since I'll want to drop off my stuff at my sister's and maybe freshen up a bit.

Alex, will be dropping you a line via your yahoo address here in a bit -- get me your number if you can! Otherwise I will send you Arthur's cell number so you can get a hold of us during the day tomorrow as needed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 November 2005 01:31 (twenty years ago)

There are also vague plans being formulated for Sunday brunch before Arthur and I split, and it wouldn't be too early since we can arrive back later in the day as needed. More as this comes together, etc.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 November 2005 01:32 (twenty years ago)

Okay, Friday plans seem fine. I just emailed you my cell #.

(When you say "I just left a message" do you mean you left one for me? If so could you send it again to [my first name]sc@sbcglobal.net? Or to the work email from which I just emailed you...)

Cheers!

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Friday, 11 November 2005 01:46 (twenty years ago)

Left one on yer cell phone.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 November 2005 01:50 (twenty years ago)

Hi, as some of you may already know, my wife is in her first trimester, so I've got to ride bart home with her after work to make sure she doesn't faint or yak or something. It's possible I might make it, but more possible that I won't....keep me posted.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 11 November 2005 02:26 (twenty years ago)

Kyle, shoot me yer phone number plz. Thanks!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 November 2005 02:29 (twenty years ago)

Sorry Ned but I didn't get your phone message, so I'm revising my request from "please re-send email" to "please call again". Thanks...

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Friday, 11 November 2005 03:16 (twenty years ago)

Huh, weird. Will call in a bit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 November 2005 03:17 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, so we're about off -- gave Alex Arthur's phone number and everyone else I have their details one way or another. Still no decision as to where to meet tonight so I leave it to the crew to decide between Pakwan and Big Mouth -- just give us the details when we call y'all.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 November 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

I sent an e-mail to Alex in SF asking for his number, Ned. I'll call Arthur or have Alex call him when I hear from him.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 11 November 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

So who is the crew who is deciding the dinner thing? Me? Pakwan's cool. It's close and cheap, but if someone wants to throw in a burrito suggestion or something else I'm glad to hear it.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 11 November 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

Gang Wizard RULE

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 11 November 2005 16:13 (twenty years ago)

Pardon?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 11 November 2005 16:13 (twenty years ago)

Gang Wizard = the Davis, CA band mentioned upthread.

Pakwan = fine by me. Could be super crowded Friday night (is the garden seating heated?) Anyway, if we go with Pakwan and it's too full there's plenty of alternatives nearby.

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Friday, 11 November 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

Okay let's assume out front of Pakwan at 7pm? Sound good to everyone?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 11 November 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

Yup

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Friday, 11 November 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Gang Wizard not really a Davis band, they're an everywhere band. Great seeing/meeting everyone! Vague ideas for brunch tomorrow with Arthur before the two of us head out, so post here as needed/desired.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 12 November 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

Yes, great meeting everyone.

Ned, please tell your awesome sister that the duet she's looking for is probably "Separate Lives" (Phil Collins/Marilyn Martin).

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Saturday, 12 November 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Loads of fun meeting you all. I hope you have fun tonight, Ned.

M. White (Miguelito), Saturday, 12 November 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

Kara, my awesome sister, says thanks to you all! And that both Paul and Mike rule.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 12 November 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

Also, if anyone does want to show up for the performance of me with the Gang Wizard, here's the scoop:

Savage Republic will play my living room!

Saturday, November 12
@ DAM House, 503 E Street in Davis, CA
w/Gang Wizard & Anni Rossi (LA) (& me), The Planet The (PDX), & The King Cobra (Oly)
plus followed by PIZZA PANEL DISCUSSION

feat. pies shipped in dry ice from Chicago & NYC
& brought from Bay Area, Davis, and Sacto
6:30 doors/7:00 music (SHARP!)/10:30 pizza & discussion

The most outspoken pizza critics here are invited to bring their favorite pizza and be on the panel. You need to tell me...

(a) I'm coming
(b) I'm bringing a pizza from ______.

I will be supplying these Davis pizzas:
* Symposium's Greek pizza
* Village Bakery kiln-baked fancy veggie pie
Plus, Sacto pizzas...
* Zelda's deepdish
* Luigi's
* Giovanni's
* El Primo Taqueria y Pizzeria 30-inch Mexican pizza

I'm so stoked that Savage Republic would agree to play in my house. It's just crazy to even think about it. They were my very first live show back in 1987. They were the first record I bought at Amoeba. I've been a fan of this band since I was about 12. These guys are pretty legendary, having provided one of the West Coast's best answers to "No New York" with their "Tragic Figures" LP, and having been around the world a couple times and packing a soccer stadium in Greece on the strength of Greek fanfare over their "O, Adonis" single.

I never expected them to agree to add to this show, but then it happened. They played three Davis house-shows between 1984-1989, and they said they remember them as some of their best and favorite live shows.

We can't do DAM House shows very frequently, so we try to make every one of them special. But this one will be made extra special, and that's why the unnecessary ridiculousness of the lavish pizza party must be included.

We strongly suggest a $5 donation.

Beer to mild buzz will be provided, but you should bring your own if you wanna get crocked or make others so crocked. Please stop shy of puking at my house!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 12 November 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

It only just now occurred to me that the LUSH t-shirt Ned wore Friday was probably a reference to the band rather than the bath boutique.

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Sunday, 13 November 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

Hahahah. (And your hunch is correct.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 14 November 2005 04:17 (twenty years ago)

hey, sorry I missed all of this, bad weekend and I didn't get out of the apartment once! how was the davis show?

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 14 November 2005 04:19 (twenty years ago)

Thats it I'm wearing my Lush tour tee when I meet Ned, har.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 14 November 2005 04:52 (twenty years ago)

how was the davis show?

Crowded but fun.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 14 November 2005 04:54 (twenty years ago)

I assumed Ned's shirt was just a statement of fraternity with everyone else in the 500 Club that night.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 14 November 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

*hic*
