Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 7 November 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

It occurs to me that more than one meaning can be read into my last post. *blush*

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 7 November 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

Heavens!

An actual 9 -- rain that's strong enough to clear the air but not strong enough to require an umbrella.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 November 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

Then he will knife a hobo.

-- Ned Raggett (ne...), April 20th, 2005.

So you're saying the hobo knifed you.

-- Ned Raggett (ne...), October 8th, 2004.

Well, knifing a hobo at least.

-- Ned Raggett (ne...), October 25th, 2005.

Then kill hobo.

-- Ned Raggett (ne...), May 22nd, 2005.

So Gear, the hobo knifed you?

-- Ned Raggett (ne...), April 28th, 2005.

Easy as knifing a hobo.

-- Ned Raggett (ne...), June 4th, 2004.

I trust the knife was used on a hobo.

-- Ned Raggett (ne...), September 20th, 2005.

Who said anything about knifing a hobo?

-- Ned Raggett (ne...), March 17th, 2005.

Ah wait, I figured it out. You knifed a hobo.

-- Ned Raggett (ne...), January 23rd, 2005.

Only just read this. Hm. You could just kill the guy. (a la hobo knifing)

-- Ned Raggett (ne...), March 8th, 2005.

_, Monday, 7 November 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

2 more from ilm-

Then, knife a hobo.

-- Ned Raggett (ne...), October 20th, 2005.

-- Ned Raggett (ne...), February 1st, 2005.

Jaq (Jaq), Monday, 7 November 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

I love tweezing things too!

kelsey (kelstarry), Monday, 7 November 2005 23:00 (twenty years ago)

Tweezing and squeezing, oh yes
Doing things for the first time, making them feel eventful (ie recently opening my FIRST EVER Netflix dvd when it came in the mail)
Dropping mail into the box or pennies off a balcony or books into the return slot so that when you close the door it over-balances and you can hear the books slide off

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 7 November 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

The smell of the deli section of a market - all those cheeses and salamis and things.

(are we numbering this now? I lost track)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 7 November 2005 23:44 (twenty years ago)

popping bubble wrap
pushing my thumb into something squhshy yet firm
giggling at vague phrases which can be interpreted dirtily.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 00:06 (twenty years ago)

When you flick on the radio just before they play your favourite song.
A little bird hopping about and chirping in the tree outside.
Blowing bubbles in milkshakes (a strictly solitary affair).
Plucking regrowth around eyebrows to make the skin all smooth again.
The burst of a cherry tomato in the mouth.
When kit-kat comes and curls up between the keyboard and computer, purring.
Definitely fresh sheets. There's nothing like it.

salexander / sofia (salexander), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 08:19 (twenty years ago)

pushing my thumb into something squhshy yet firm

Teehee. Um, sorry.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 08:21 (twenty years ago)

Also youre dead on abt the cherry tomatoes, salex!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

Ha, I know! They're so addictive, not just for the taste but for that burst of firmness. Hmm that phrasing doesn't sound so good esp. juxtaposed with the post before.

salexander / sofia (salexander), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 08:27 (twenty years ago)

Mmmm firm.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

Walking, of course. The simplest, finest pleasure in my life. When I walk, I am like king.

moley, Tuesday, 8 November 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

when i ride my bike & am warm from the ride & then a breeze comes down my back. i love that.

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

My favourite simple pleasure is when someone throws a cigarette butt out of their car window at night and it skip-hops down the road, showering tiny sparks as it snuffs out.

you better believe it (you better believe it), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

Playing with cornstarch.

Looking into my left side mirror on my car as it vibrates with the kick drum and imagining that a Mannie Freshasaurus is after me.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 8 November 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

Sitting in a bar whilst reading out stories from the day's newspaper in an sarcastic voice to friends.

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Saturday, 14 June 2008 21:04 (seventeen years ago)

I think simple pleasures are my whole life! Where to start?

Maria, Saturday, 14 June 2008 21:11 (seventeen years ago)

two years pass...

the glue on the back of amazon parcels, the stuff that comes off in one piece if you pull it really slowly but tears if you do it too fast.

koogs, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 15:48 (fourteen years ago)

The sound of ice cubes softly banging against the glass when you take a sip from a drink.

Jibe, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 15:57 (fourteen years ago)

drinking beer outside in the spring/summer

Zero pumps, massive boner (thebingo), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

koogs, agreed, that snot glue stuff is kind of awesome. Always loved pulling it out of magazine ads as a kid. Now I get paid to put it ON, sort of?

Simple pleasure of the week: having nice work clothes that fit and make me feel like a grown-up, hanging in my dressing area ready to wear and easy to pull together.

Back up the lesbian canoe (Laurel), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 16:21 (fourteen years ago)

ooh with beer, my simple pleasure is that first sip you take, after a long day of doing stuff, when your mouth is a bit dry.

Jibe, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 16:29 (fourteen years ago)

walking somewhere on a hot day, when you have no need to be there at any set time. unemployed at the moment and have done some seriously slow ambling, feels amazing with the sun on your back.

Will.Have.Known (Local Garda), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 16:39 (fourteen years ago)

left work 30 mins early. No school traffic.

i've got blingees on my fisters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 16:55 (fourteen years ago)

(it's not the snot glue but i know what you mean (cover mounted cds) it's the thick card envelopes they use for books and dvds. there's a plastic strip to pull to open them but that leaves a tab glued on the back. but pull that back s l o w l y and it comes off in one piece. is more difficult than the snot glue and duller and more satisfying.)

koogs, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 19:06 (fourteen years ago)

crumbling up the pair of Wendy's® saltine crackers while they're still inside the cellophane wrapper, then tearing open the cellophane wrapper and pouring the crumbs onto the cup of Wendy's® chili

silver white winters that melt into springs
wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
whiskers on kittens
brown paper packages tied up with strings
raindrops on roses

Aimless, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 19:41 (fourteen years ago)

letting out a massive fart when no one is around. alternatively letting out a massive fart with lots of people are around. both give me simple pleasure.

Zero pumps, massive boner (thebingo), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 19:44 (fourteen years ago)

one year passes...

adblock plus element hiding helper and nuking an annoying advert with laser-guided precision (or, increasingly, whole annoying sections of webpages)

(newspaper webpages that are 80% comments and have a bar running the entire right hand side full of crap i will never click on, i am looking at you)

koogs, Saturday, 29 August 2020 15:32 (five years ago)

Even though I am not a handy person at all, my three favorite smells are mechanics garages, hardware stores, and cut grass

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Saturday, 29 August 2020 16:04 (five years ago)

Surprised no one has said peeling off dead skin from a sunburn yet.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Saturday, 29 August 2020 16:05 (five years ago)

My life has changed somewhat since I started this thread fifteen years ago. I’m going to add:

- successfully removing Sharpie from a beige carpet
- taking a plant out of a flowerpot by turning it upside-down while you hold the plant between your second and third fingers
- removing the silver tab from the bottom of a cheap pot of creme caramel so it flops perfectly down into the dish

Madchen, Saturday, 29 August 2020 19:06 (five years ago)

This is a very Nicholson Baker-esque thread. I’ll add dumping out used coffee grinds into the trash with a short, quick flick of the hand.

calstars, Saturday, 29 August 2020 20:00 (five years ago)

oh it's Mädchen! wondered what happened to you. I like seeing old usernames pop up.

akm, Saturday, 29 August 2020 20:04 (five years ago)

I’ve been here all along! But mostly sticking to threads I bookmarked some time ago.

Madchen, Sunday, 30 August 2020 07:33 (five years ago)

two years pass...

when that 2.5 hour film i taped on spec turns out to be garbage thus freeing up space on the groaning pvr

koogs, Saturday, 22 October 2022 17:31 (three years ago)

Walking across a parking lot at sunset and having a 30 foot long shadow.
