Desperate MS word recovery question

was doing a project for school of about 15 pages. somehow managed to accidentally highlight 10 of those pages and delete them. (totally unnoticed to me until a while later.) didn't save different (backup) versions and saved 5-page version of project over older 15-page version. have mac w/os 10.4.3. is there any program i can find where i can try and recover the older version of the file and get back the data? the 10 pages i mean? or am i fucked?

Maybe this? Can you do undelete several times? Or doesn't that work when you've saved it?

where have you been, am? sounds like you are fucked :(

glad to see you got a new computer, though!

Nath on the right track, maybe. save the doc under a new name and then ctrl-z until those lost pages come back. (assuming you haven't closed Word.)

I am so sorry that this happened to you.

this reminds me of the time at work when, having re-drawn and re-subbed a late magazine page in record time, i clicked "abort page check-out" and then answered "yes" when it asked me if i was absolutely sure i wanted to chuck away everything i'd just done. to this day, i have no idea why i did that.

anyway: i share your pain, and i hope one of the solutions above works.

i am running this filesalvage program, but only a "trial" version that supposedly will ony tell me what it can recover; it won't actually recover anything. anyone have the full version?

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Sunday, 13 November 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

I SAID HI AMATEURIST

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 13 November 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

HI. DO YOU HAVE A SERIAL NO. FOR FILESALVAGE V.4.2?

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Sunday, 13 November 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

did you try s3rial box?

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 13 November 2005 23:47 (twenty years ago)

mac.serialz.to

Jdubz (ex machina), Monday, 14 November 2005 00:17 (twenty years ago)

i managed to get both filesalvage and a serial no., but ironically this software was unable to recover the data while some mysterious burp of my system--whereby a bunch of "word work files" were stored in my trash bin--was. go figure.

yay! i love that feeling of relief when you find/salvage something that you thought word had irretrievably and inexplicably destroyed

gem (trisk), Monday, 14 November 2005 05:33 (twenty years ago)

Amateur(ist), if you ever need serial nrs, just try limewire. You can also download lots of mac programs from limewire (really fast btw). :-)

yeah, this is one time i'm grateful for having a dicey operating system.

AVOID: Buslink.
Search: La Cie, I guess... I'm in the market for one too, now.

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

am i have a lacie "porsche"*-model external dvd burner. firewire/usb2. it works totally fine.

*porsche-designed stuff is invariably shittier and cheaper (they know this!) than the other models

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 00:47 (twenty years ago)

is the manufacturer related to porsche, the car manufacturer or are they trying to glom off some of the latter's prestige? i mean, not that i've heard anything about porsches for about 15 years, but.... wait--isn't porsche a kind of horse or something?

Porsche Design / Design by F.A. Porsche:
Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, designer of the Porsche 911 and grandson of the Porsche founder, opened the Porsche Design Studio in Stuttgart in 1972, which was moved to Zell am See, Austria, two years later. The 911 quickly became the quintessential sports car and a design classic, along with many other products that Professor F. A. Porsche designed. Over the following decades, numerous classic men’s accessories such as watches, glasses and writing utensils were created and marketed worldwide under the “Porsche Design” brand. At the same time, many industrial products and household- and consumer goods for internationally recognized clients, including streetcars for the city of Vienna, were developed under the “Design by F.A. Porsche” brand. All of the studio’s works are distinguished by a clear and functional design language, careful selection of materials and high-quality workmanship, which combines artisan tradition with state-of-the-art technology. Since 2005 all products are developed and marketed under the brand Porsche Design.
