This is starting to happen to me everytime I have to do some bigger sized article for work...it's like it seems so overwhelming and I don't know how to begin...then i start suspecting that maybe it will just "turn off", like words just won't be able to come, and I start wasting all this time on boards (like now)....ugh...it's scary.

not a problem.

Matt, you just wrote a few lines. Proof that you are able to write, no? :-) Then again, I realize that's silly of me to say. I think maybe it's easier to break down the writing process maybe? How do you write a long article? Maybe you need to approach it differently?

The key to finding words is first getting a grip on the subject matter. Once you've grasped the substance the words should just follow like lambs behind a bellwether.

I find it hard to write when I'm going through a stage of improvement. Look at everything I type and think nope, nope, nope. Then I look back weeks later, and what I wrote was fine. Just means your standards have got higher, perhaps. If writing is taking more thought than it usually does then, er, you're thinking more.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can

This completely happens to me. I've been conditioned to write brief, bullet-style stuff that I'm worried that I can't put together a longer, more detailed piece anymore.

If it's something you need to quote other people for, speak to the people and collect the quotes. Then build it around the quotes. Easier said than done I guess.

If it ever comes easy ALL THE TIME, then you probably have lost writing "talent".
