Nicole Richie Can Write

I knew for sure that the Magdalena commercials were going to be a big deal when I saw Chloe on TV while I was working out. I stopped running in place and watched in shock as she and Simone, arm in arm, sat on a lavender sofa in Magdalena HQ being interviewed by Billy Bush. Billy was doing the expected lovestruck banter with the new BFFs as they giggled and flashed leg. Simone, inarticulate to the point of mental incompetence, came off as aloof and mysterious on TV for some unknown reason. The camera loved Chloe, whose coke high read as girlish excitement.

Shouldn't an editor - any editor - if not the writer herself (or her ghostwriter) have cut "for some unknown reason"?

if you did that it would ruin (the effective) casual and slightly decadent conversaational tone

anthony, Monday, 14 November 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

You could get precisely the same effect by replacing "came off" with "somehow managed to come across" and excising the padding-pandering phrase "for some unknown reason", resulting in a sentence that scans better with only one word dropped off the word count.

(I misspelled "count" as "cunt" and almost left it because it seemed really appropriate.)

I wish I could remember who the football player was a few years ago who kept throwing the phrase "for some apparent reason" into his postgame interview

that guy is my nameless hero

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Monday, 14 November 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

I think I do it (online mostly), but I have an excuse - I have neither an editor nor a publishing contract.

im just dying to read this book. i love insanely rich chicks! i know most people here are too angry to agree. i assumed she didnt write it, though. you know, she "wrote" it. she is smart and funny. if the NYTimes guaranteed bestseller authors (Cornwell, Rice, Steele, Crichton etc) are allowed to write, why not her? at least shes interesting.
and that line does sound decedent. t/s: grammactical efficiency vs writing.

if she didn't actually write it they found an appropriately shitty ghostwriter

She has always come off as surprisingly self-aware and even witty during her appearances on Howard Stern. And she's a pretty decent pianist, it turns out.

Plus she dated that DJ AM character back when he was pushing 350, which, as a fellow musical fattie, gives me a tingle of hope.

I love u, NICkole! HoLLABAQ at me! Hit me at 323/810-33

And she still does, now that they weigh 125 pounds... combined. I don't know, if she sheds a few more pounds, her blackberry (or is it a razr now?) will weigh more than her. She should also stop wearing those bugging large sunglasses. Fugly as they say.

sunny successor, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

they made a terrible photocollage of nr with some drawings the other day on tmz. :-(
that said, her belly looks... awkward, droopy.

nathalie, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

she does look healthier

river wolf, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:45 (eighteen years ago)

sunny successor, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:47 (eighteen years ago)

Ah okay. I know it's a rather harsh comment, but after seeing that TMZ collage, I keep seeing the droopiness of it. :-(
