I just installed a wireless network card on my pc, its running Windows ME (probably part of the problem) and ever since I installed it, it freezes anywhere from 3-10 minutes after I turn it on. Ctrl+alt+delete does NOthing. Who will save me?!

ME is teh suck. i had this problem once, i think you need to turn off the System Restore, as this starts taking over the memory until theres not enough to run anything. of course what you really need is to get rid of ME, those blue screens of death get very tiresome.

I hate ME so.

could be the display driver. try safe mode (press f8 when the PC's starting) and see if it happens in that mode.

Sounds like a driver problem to me.

i was gonna say overheating, but after reading your description maybe not.

still, you can check by unscrewing the case off it and blowing a desk fan onto the parts, then try starting it and see if it locks up

I keep staring at this thread. With an insane smile on my face for having an Apple.

Of course I have selective memory. Last week I had to reprogram my new comp because I had done the copy-with-a-firewire-cable thing and it cockxered up my new comp.

Hmmmmmm. I want to hear more about this.

The guy on tech support for the network card said its probably the power supply dying, but he couldn't help me beyond that because the network card itself works fine...until the entire computer locks up.

First, make sure the network card is on the hardware compatibility list. If it isn't, don't use it and get one that is. If it is, search for and download the latest driver for use with ME. Use that driver instead of the one that came with the card.

System lockups after installation of hardware are generally driver conflicts.

Download a linux live cd and run that for a while, you'll be able to tell if it is a hardware problem or a problem with your OS.

I don't see it in the hardware compatibility list, which surprises me because it says its compatible on the box. I guess I'll try the drivers first anyway, but i'll probably end up returning it.

Almost definitely a driver compatability issue. The Linux boot CD suggestion is excellent and will allow you to recover files if needed. Are you able to boot into Safe Mode (F8 at start-up)? If so, you can remove the driver there and see if you can boot normally and not have the machine lock-up in the same amount of time. If not, back-up everything you can and reformat that mutha.

And make sure that you use the image of Pikachu mid-crap as your desktop image after the reformat. Why not, you know?
