ken c (ken c), Monday, 14 November 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

43 coz it's the only one on the right side of the river.

Lady Totteringby-Gently (kate), Monday, 14 November 2005 10:33 (twenty years ago)

i'm growing to like 31. too.

i have a love-hate relationship with 27.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 14 November 2005 10:34 (twenty years ago)

I'm ambivalent about 19.

robster (robster), Monday, 14 November 2005 10:36 (twenty years ago)

38. is fun to hang around with, but more as an acquaintance

ken c (ken c), Monday, 14 November 2005 10:37 (twenty years ago)

Number 7 is where you get on and off the bus to get to my brother's house.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 14 November 2005 10:37 (twenty years ago)

which one is the Odeon Holloway stop - 23?

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Monday, 14 November 2005 10:46 (twenty years ago)

15, i'll say one more time

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Monday, 14 November 2005 10:48 (twenty years ago)

Number 1 was good when Catty lived there, but she's seen the light and moved somewhere more sensible now.

Lady Totteringby-Gently (kate), Monday, 14 November 2005 10:49 (twenty years ago)

18 is misleading

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Monday, 14 November 2005 10:50 (twenty years ago)

i don't think i've been further north than Archway station on this bus, maybe Highgate.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Monday, 14 November 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

i have ventured as far as colney hatch lane to the north, and london bridge in the south.

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Monday, 14 November 2005 10:54 (twenty years ago)

3 is handy for Tescos

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Monday, 14 November 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

I used to get it all the time, when I lived closer to Highbury Corner than Cally Road. Now I use the 17 for London Bridge - Archway action.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 14 November 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

teh hobb otm

i've been on the whole route. travelled all the way to 1. (but by accident as i fell asleep)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 14 November 2005 11:16 (twenty years ago)

There could be a photo-project in this: travel the entire length of a bus route, snapping all the stops and anything else interesting along the way.

robster (robster), Monday, 14 November 2005 11:19 (twenty years ago)

Didn't Gareth do something like that? With the 253/254?

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 14 November 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

the thread title is kind of wrong now. it's not just 43 as in the bus route places, as it is actually a list of 43 places.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 14 November 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

xpost he didn't snap 253/254 photos i bet.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 14 November 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

you're all wrong... the 43 goes out on the Malahide road, but then at the last minute it veers off down a back road to Swords, going past a quarry in the process.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 14 November 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Actually, a photo project from the 43 bus in your city, whichever city that might be, would be interesting.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 14 November 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

especially if it's 43 photos each, from 43 cities.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 14 November 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

The 253 was a book, I thought, about 253 victims of a planecrash?

Until it was reworked into a lame indie album about the bus route 253.

Lady Totteringby-Gently (kate), Monday, 14 November 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)

i'd like to see Gareth's photos of 253/254 route if indeed he does have any.

what was that book about x number of passengers on a tube, the title being that number?

i like this bus stop photos idea a lot, although i am currently engrossed in LUTSE and am behind schedule with that as it is.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Monday, 14 November 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

I don't really like the 43, although I can't exactly explain why *. When I wait at Highbury Corner for a bus to take me up Holloway Road, sure I'll get on a 43 if it comes round but I always get a little surge of pleasure if a 271 arrives.

* I think perhaps one of the reasons I don't like the 43 is because it goes to London Bridge so there's usually a reference to London Bridge on it. I don't like London Bridge.

I don't like 'photo projects'. Just take photos.

Oak (small items), Monday, 14 November 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

Steve and Kate are talking about the same thing:

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 14 November 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

Stop 9 is best (except there are 2 stops on Muswell Hill Broadway, I'm talking about what should be stop 10), cos it's at the end of my street. I usually end up on the 134 though, cos that comes more often.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Monday, 14 November 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

surely it depends where you're headed, colonel?

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Monday, 14 November 2005 12:26 (twenty years ago)

Well I normally take the bus to Highgate station or from Archway station, so I can get either the 134 or the 43.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Monday, 14 November 2005 12:29 (twenty years ago)

Stop 10. as its a 10 second walk from my front door. a lazy mans paradise.

mason storm (mason storm), Monday, 14 November 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

I live at 19. I don't really know why.

MESTEMA (davidcorp), Monday, 14 November 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

this thread is even more redundant than my 'beer rod sculpture' thread.

MESTEMA (davidcorp), Monday, 14 November 2005 12:57 (twenty years ago)

haha maybe. except this thread rocks and yours was teh sux.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 14 November 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

the 271 is like the 43 but without the happyslapping

which is odd as the 271 cuts out the oddbins'n'estateagent land of upper st

terry lennox. (gareth), Monday, 14 November 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

271 is the express 43. if you're not planning to go to angel.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 14 November 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

When I was a regular FARTY-THREE rider I routinely got off at Highbury Corner even if I was going further in because it was just faster to walk. 22 was my stop for a good while but I spent as little time hanging round there as I could.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 14 November 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

29 – my flat

beanz (beanz), Monday, 14 November 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

36-42. i'm a big fan of the city.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 14 November 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

I'm voting for 18 coz my dad used to work there. also, I like the cat in the cage on Highgate Hill, although I have never seen the stuffed cat in the pub.

MarkH (MarkH), Sunday, 20 November 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

My vote goes to 10, for being at the top of the hill and for the grebt London views, and for the bizarre way you can 'feel'it coming round the corner a few seconds before it actually appears. Try it !

17 is my local, but bloody cold and fills up far too quickly with punters jostling for position, and 31 is frustratingly far too full of other, way more frequent bus options, and it's always packed by then.

darren (darren), Sunday, 20 November 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

27 or 28 were good - meant all i had to do was have a nice walk through highbury fields and then i'd be home...
31 is also nice. or 32 if i was going to sainsbury's or CLUB FT
also love final #43 on saturday morning - borough market food shopping mmmmmm

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 20 November 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
i am growing to like 27 more

ken c, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:14 (eighteen years ago)

27 is directly opposite my house. Friends who are waiting for the bus wave and sometimes come in for tea or wine. It's like living in the modern equivalent of a coaching station.

Anna, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:19 (eighteen years ago)

i went to 1 early last year

blueski, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:20 (eighteen years ago)

24 is mine, although somehow it seems ken missed the stop outside the odeon (and holloway rd station!), which is actually my stop.

the 271 is a much better bus, still

696, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:25 (eighteen years ago)

I had to edit the list so that it has 43 stations on it.. so i sacrificed the cinema and tube station in favour of the nag's head one in the middle of the two not only because it provides much better bus links, but more importantly also it's the one that's right near my house :D

ken c, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:36 (eighteen years ago)

271 is amazing.

it's the happy bus. whereas 43 is a sad bus.

ken c, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:37 (eighteen years ago)

it's 43's answer to 29's 253

ken c, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:37 (eighteen years ago)

ok yea i was thinking loads were missing

696, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:39 (eighteen years ago)

current bus top 5:

254 (NOT 253)
76
56
242
55 (pushin it's luck but hanging in there)

blueski, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:41 (eighteen years ago)

still got love for the 106

the 21 is sneaking up on me, it feels like the south threw up a hook and it caught on newington green

696, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:42 (eighteen years ago)

i knew this would be a gareth thread

That one guy that quit, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:43 (eighteen years ago)

708s 202s i send small cities and states IOUs

That one guy that quit, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:44 (eighteen years ago)

this is nothing to do with me

696, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

but it's not a gareth thread!

i think i've only been on the 43 a couple of times.

i had an adventure on, i think, the d7 the other day. got on at westferry expecting to be taken straight to all saints as per the front of the bus but ended up going on the most circuitous route ever. got to see the whole of the isle of dogs! exciting.

lex pretend, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

a bus with a letter never goes the way you expect

696, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:49 (eighteen years ago)

except Ns maybe. when are they going to scrap all Ns and just brand them 24hr routes?

blueski, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:50 (eighteen years ago)

top 5:
271
259
88
N3
24

ken c, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

I plan to ride every bus in London. So far I have done:

1

It was quite good.

Pete W, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 10:59 (eighteen years ago)

from end to end or just hopping on/off where it suits you?

blueski, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 11:01 (eighteen years ago)

end to end.

Pete W, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

yaaaow

blueski, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 11:28 (eighteen years ago)

Hmm, I've ridden the W6 all the way but that only goes from Edmonton Green to Southgate. I've probably done several night buses.

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 11:30 (eighteen years ago)

It's for time out. it basically guarantees me a job for the next 699 weeks (not including C and N routes).

Pete W, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 11:35 (eighteen years ago)

how far out are you going? will you do the 114 for example?

blueski, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 11:43 (eighteen years ago)

I will do them all, even the 92. No half measures.

Pete W, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 11:46 (eighteen years ago)

even the 90?

even...the (**starts trembling*)...84?

blueski, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 11:57 (eighteen years ago)

Crazy, aren't I? It's a piece of piss until the 20. Where the fuck is Debden?

Pete W, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 12:02 (eighteen years ago)

near loughton no?

696, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 12:02 (eighteen years ago)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debden%2C_Epping_Forest

Yeah, it actually sounds pretty cool. Banknotes!

Pete W, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 12:04 (eighteen years ago)

seems mad that the 20 operates that far out. may be stepping on it myself soon however.

blueski, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 12:11 (eighteen years ago)

ahh... the 43 bus. well, my stop to get home was 27/28 from that top list. my fondest memories of london are getting off the 43, walking through highbury fields to get to my street.

but i do like stop #30 as well. and 36 and 43 were somewhat essential.

Rob Bolton, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 12:27 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

21-26 can eat a dick

14 because i am feeling aspirational
