I love Henry Root, but like Craig Brown Donaldson's biggest failing is his unhidden contempt for the working class. And the snippets quoted in that article aren't very funny, are they?

do you think that's true of craig brown? he's the only name of those three that i know, and while he new one seems a bit dud, he has done some great work.

I used to like a lot of Craig Brown's stuff, but every Diary he did for an oik used the same comedy all-purpose WC voice. Maybe it's fairer to say he's a Fogey, but that amounts to the same thing really. (For me he crossed the line when he had a pop at Mark and Lard in a style that indicated he just didn't get what they did).

I like Craig Brown, but his new history "satire" is really fucking awful.

And when I started to doubt him, I found that the Diary scored a lot more misses than hits. He seems to be repeating himself, or just coasting.

he's probably doing too much.

I guess that Public School snobbery is part of Private Eye's schtick (and its charm) but sometimes it gets wearing.

true. i hadn't read it for ages, and picked one up from the summer, and there was this 'how to spot a moderate muslim thing' which was *way* off-base.

this book confuses me, the co-author generally writes about celebs for a living.
