I need to make a poster - which software should I use?

I'm trying to patch up a poster for an event, does anyone know of any free apps that would get the job done, quick? I'm on a Mac, and I remember using one that was called n-Gen (maybe?) a while back but I cannot find it anymore? Tips, anyone? Thanks in advance.

Gimp and a free office application suite. Go to version-tracker.com and type in "Gimp" and download it. This is like Photoshop. THen, go back to version-tracker and type in "Office" and you should produce results that are alternatives to Microsoft Office. You might want to search "Office Suite." It ain't Quark or In-Design or even Illustrator, but you should be able to work something out and save it as a popular file format at least. Good luck.

thanks, i'll try it out. i have also managed to find that old piece of software, and reinstall it on my machine. the name is n-generate, and it gives you 5 templates that you just type text into, just in case you're feeling lazy.
