Creepy Receptionist

so the receptionist where I work had one of my co-workers tell me that she "would quit her job if it meant she could have casual sex with [me]". naturally, that made me feel uncomfortable, least of all because other co-workers have been giving me shit about it (the general consensus being that she's not attractive & somewhat obnoxious). she's obviously embarrassed, too, and she doesn't even have a clue that I'M GAY.

how the fuck to deal w/ this? i have to deal w/ her on a daily basis, and we actually were getting along pretty well before this. too well, perhaps.

added twist: i'm the son of the company president, and not anxious to spread word of my gayness amongst my homophobic fratboy co-workers.

Shrug it off? Wait for it to blow over? (Is that an option? I mean there's really not a lot that can be said/done)

All seems a little odd and fratty, but at the same time kinda easy to feel above.

Have sex with her, so she can quit her job, then it'll all be over with and you both can get on with yr lives.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 19:46 (nineteen years ago)

That's the other option.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 19:47 (nineteen years ago)

Remain cooly distant in all your interactions until she gets the clue, and then pretend it never happened. Given her ugliness/obnoxiousness, it shouldn't raise any red flags, even the frat boys.

If they ask, you can just say you wouldn't hit that with a truck.

i think this thread should be titled "asshole co-workers"

giboyeux (skowly), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 19:55 (nineteen years ago)

Pretend she's a man and have casual sex with her with no strings attached. You know, like you would if she was a man!

The Solution, Wednesday, 23 November 2005 19:58 (nineteen years ago)

okay, now she's upset because "i was gossiping about her." wtf? i was the recipient of the gossip. bullshit.

elmo (allocryptic), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 19:58 (nineteen years ago)

Does she read ilx or do you just have super-gossipy co-workers?

INVITE HER OVER ON FRIDAY AND PLAY A GAME WHERE WE TRICK SOMEONE ELSE RESEMBLING YOU INTO ENDING UP DRUNK IN A DARK ROOM WITH HER!

NOSE ARMY!
Not really relating to your dilemma - but if your the son of the prez, why should you bother hiding your gayness (unless, naturally your old man has no clue). If they're homophobes wouldn't it just make that much sweeter to force your coworkers to have to live with the fact you're gay?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

my co-workers are just full of gossip. honestly, the office is run pretty poorly here. thanks to the frathouse atmosphere, there is plenty of borderline sexual harrassment here on a daily basis.

elmo (allocryptic), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

and post the funny results that than ensue

A Nairn (moretap), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

Thermo --

My father is aware, but I've found it easier to not make it an issue and let people's assumptions about me stand, which works pretty well, except for circumstances like this.

elmo (allocryptic), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

Also, isn't the office also a manufacturing facility? I think that might put the culture in a better light....

Occam's Reznor (ex machina), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 20:30 (nineteen years ago)

jon - yea. i've worked a variety of jobs here since high school, including working on the production floor. a lot of folks here have known me since before even *i* knew i was gay.

elmo (allocryptic), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

tell the co-worker to tell her you aren't interested. period.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

well, they know i'm not interested. that doesn't stop them from giving me shit about it.

elmo (allocryptic), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 20:50 (nineteen years ago)

at least she's gone for the day now.

elmo (allocryptic), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

Have your dad fire her. Brutally.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 20:53 (nineteen years ago)

By fax.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

What does a brutal faxing involve?

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

lady, if you have to ask...

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

Don't let this get to you, elmo. I mean no offense to your amour propre but sthe receptionist was probably exagerating. Tell the gossipy co-worker that you couldn't care less about the who the receptionist wants to shag. Adopt an attitude of lofty and cool indifference.

At some point, people will either wonder or find out that you're gay. At some point, you might want to tell them this fact about you and let the problem be theirs as opposed to yours.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 21:00 (nineteen years ago)

Not too sure. there a lot of creative leeway with something like this. Perhaps something involving an unflattering sketch of her followed by a large alphabetized list of her faults?

xxpost
