Tuomas haters are a strange breed.

But say any or all of these things are true. Why would that make someone start a thread about him?

Meanwhile the conflicting current of musical materialism is running strong. The Daily Mail, always in the van of artistic progress, has espoused the cause of the insurgent Georgians with intrepid zeal. Mr. Julius Harrison is extolled in a leading article for finding a theme for an orchestral work, not in any of the misty or metaphysical abstractions which appealed to the effete Victorian composers, but in plums. And, mind you, not Carlsbad, but honest Worcestershire plums, without any Teutonic taint. Mr. Julius Harrison's patriotic example is not likely to be lost on his brother composers. Indeed it is asserted on credible authority that Mr. Granville Bantock, who has completely forsworn all Oriental and exotic subjects, is engaged on a gigantic symphony, with choral interludes, entitled "Yorkshire Pudding;" and that Mr. Josef Holbrooke is collaborating with Lord Howard de Walden in a romantic historical opera in fifteen Acts called "From Woad to Broadcloth."

It's sometimes funny to have a laugh, at Tuomas, when he's on a posting streak of funny things. But it is not always funny to laugh at/with Tuomas. I really cannot comprehend the people who get het up about Tuomas or even Mark C or Jon or your typical targets when some of the other people who post here continue to post. DOWN WITH HATRED OF EASY TARGETS WHO DON'T REALLY DESERVE IT, here is a new motto, for me.

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 24 November 2005 01:33 (twenty years ago)

I think, partially, it's a love/hate thing, like if everyone just outright hates someone, why give them any attention at all, whereas it'd be a sad day if any of these dudes disappeared. But what if the teasing sends away Tuomas or someone like him! This is what I worry about, that this tough-love LOL roffles thing will drive them away.

xpost jess that's just curmudgeonly.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 24 November 2005 01:34 (twenty years ago)

curmudgeonly is an awesome word

I think we should have a rotating target of bullying, so that people don't get so lazy with their insults. Keep it fresh, you know?

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 24 November 2005 01:39 (twenty years ago)

i view everyone on ilx as a moving target.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 24 November 2005 01:44 (twenty years ago)

i'll fight whoever wants a piece

gear (gear), Thursday, 24 November 2005 01:49 (twenty years ago)

you know what it is though, it's EXACTLY what I was saying, right, about why bother even engaging with someone who is just awful, how all this teasing is a tough love thing. Because, now I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but I was raised in a kind of constantly fighting and arguing and dramatic family. So, like, if I'm on a thread, and I'm just like "SHUT UP EVERYONE HATES YOU" and then ignore you from thenceforth (which isn't a word), then, like, I'm serious, right. Cos I ain't even bothering to entertain myself at work or while drunk by talking to you at ALL, even to insult. But if I argue with you for 700 posts, that means I got mad respect.

So, in closing, Tuomas, keep on doing your thing.

xpost gear I'd take you up on that but I gotta go eat a steak now :(

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 24 November 2005 01:50 (twenty years ago)

fwiw, i heart tuomas. long may he continue to post here, and not be repelled by threads like this one.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 24 November 2005 10:48 (twenty years ago)

A couple of points:

* I'm not particularly offended by these kind of threads, I don't really mind what people I've never met think of me. However, as I said the other day, I do feel that such threads have made ILE less friendly and I've become vary of posting anything particularly personal here. So, to me ILE has now become a place where to kill the time at school or at work, not much more. And I think it's a loss, but there's hardly anything I can do about it.

* Some of you talk like bullying and mockery are a fact of life, something you can't do anything about, just get used to it. If not accepting this makes me "naive", then I guess I am.

* What the hell is a "teutonic taint"?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 24 November 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

I don't understand how someone could have a hate on for Tuomas. He's got to be the most unoffensive thing floating around ilx. It's like hating on something totally innocuous... like clouds or something.

xpost :/
