OK. i'm going to a costume/fancy dress party on saturday. the theme is 'rebels and revolutionaries'. i'm figuring that there's not many girls (or boys that i look like) that are recolutionarities (hmm, could shave my head and be joan of arc?), probably in the 'rebels' camp. any ideas?

bonus points for a costume that is easy enough to change so i can go to a different (non-themed) birthday party at a london club after.

yes, please help.

someone is already going as princess leia. and madonna. and trinity from the matrix. i thought about patty hearst, but isn't she either hard to recognize (as in, if i wear a beret and machine gun, is that enough?) or the only girl revolutionary?

not criticizing...just more information.

Go as mao tse tung.

Or as Maria from the sound of music. Either in her nun or nanny days. Either costume would look great at the birthday party afterwards.

i thought about tank girl, but does everyone know who she is? i'd love to walk around saying 'pa-pa-pa-pow!' all night

um, toby is as helpful as google images

someone who's been guillotined. or stoned to death. or not eating cake.
bra burner.
omg, michael moore.

Dorothy Gale. She took out the Witch in a tactical water strike, and then toppled the Wizard in a bloodless coup.

You could go as a punk. Or you could stencil lyrics from David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel" all over a white t-shirt, or you could go in a torn dress with big red arrows pointing to the tear.
"Who are you?"
"I'm Rebel Rebel. Look, I've torn my dress!"
Or you could go as the dog from Champion the Wonder Horse.
Or you could wear all brown and say you thought it was Revels and Revolutionaries.

I am a big help.

Go as the woman in the middle of this:

You might make a lot of new friends.

This might limit your mingling at the first party, but it's easy to change out of:

hmm...the problem with so many of these characters is that they don't have an iconic image that's easy to recognize. don't know why i'm having such a hard time with this!

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 24 November 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

How about this fella? Pretty iconic, I'd say

hobart paving (hobart paving), Thursday, 24 November 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

Isn't it a bit literal to think you have to go as a gun-toting Cuban rebel girl, Colette? What about a top hat and tails androgynous-but-sexy Marlene Dietrich? Toby can go as Jo von Sternberg. If costume is chosen, must post photo.

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 24 November 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

I need ideas too. Two fancy dress parties coming up
The first theme is coca cola(?!) so no idea for that, and the second is hollywood so easier but i still cant think of anything original. Any suggestions?
