Did Del Amitri get a leg though the door because the lead singer has a famous brother?

Are you seeing Justin at Christmas, Momus?

Pen Kravitz, Thursday, 24 November 2005 11:00 (twenty years ago)

I wonder what the NME's take on him is now..

I hate things that go "like X but on drugs!"

David Quantick is a lovely man, but I think my quotes were truncated and garbled in that article. I doubt I ever said the Pet Shop Boys "picked up on me", because it isn't true, and the line about my cousin being bound to fuck up was actually a longer thing about how bands on major labels don't have the right to fuck up, don't have the crucial right to be wrong.

that particular quote seemed spectacularly out of context.

It was nice to remember when the NME employed people as talented as David Quantick.

THIS IS THE SOUND OF ALTERN 8 !!! (noodle vague), Thursday, 24 November 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

Not that you'd know it from that particular article - "He will cure you" - c'mon!

I'm puzzled by this quote: "though Scottish and on Creation, his records eschew screaming feedback and cheerful post-modern lyrics". In 1992 Creation had Primal Scream and Teenage Fanclub, yet eight years later the NME was still banging on about the Jesus and Mary Chain (one single on Creation).
