Toby Young's book about what a complete twat he is and how lucky he was to be employed by Conde Nast for 10 seconds has one interesting passage about The Establishment, where he argues that it's better than the United States because everyone knows it's unfair. Nobody shares the American delusion that there is a chance for everyone if they work for it, and so you get Noblesse Oblige instead of bling.
