Back on the chain gang

I'm tired of always dumping on the UK, time to start hassling the Yanks. Most people on this board are pinkos, so I imagine you're against sweatshop labour. So how do the Americans avoid buying stuff made by slave prison labour, as the prison-industrial complex continues to expand and suck up everything in its path even worse than WalMart, and basically no one does fuck-all about it even though there's about 90 million people incarcerated there a week, and they all get cornholed in the pen and come out as psycho killers? (One example, the prison-gang members who killed James Byrd in Texas.) Is the economic boost provided by having so much free labour worth it, as a few years from now statistically everybody will be living next to a musclebound, 'somewhat tense' skinhead with tattooed tears and anger-management problems? Or is there REALLY that many bad people in America that such a huge proportion of people are in the clink?

Remember Brits, criminal-justice policies have a habit of travelling in one direction! Then again, seeing as the Met have lately been indistinguishable from the Keystone Kops, I don't think a police state is in your future anytime soon

But Dave, us Limeys deserve to be picked on. Trust me. Our PM's wife, Cherie Blair, shelled out £20,000 for 8 dresses for her to wear during a six day tour of India, each one manufactured in a sweatshop where the workers get paid £1 an hour for the privilege of being involved in such a high profile commission. Of course, Mrs Blair had no knowledge of this arrangement at the time of transaction. So that's all right then.

isn't america's ability just to disappear large no.s of ppl into jail directly related to its "freedom of movement" whereby large no.s of ppl disappear themselves round the big wide open? uk imo too wee for this particular disaster to get to stage it has

Everything in America is made in China (= other prison-industrial complex), so no one here needs to worry about encouraging the US prison system by consuming. And one result of shoving everyone in prison here is that generally you don't end up living next to psychos, they're all in the pen.

They're all let out eventually. And they're all completely insane after they get out, judging from the ones I've met. The alternative to getting cornholed in prison is to join some sort of race gang, and all prisoners do all day is lift weights. This is probably the exact image that the jail guard unions (who have ridiculously high salaries and pensions) would like to maintain. I'd actually feel much better if the prisoners spent all day repaving the highway or making my clothes. The way it's structured now, the economic boost provided by the prison industrial complex goes almost entirely back into the prison industrial complex. Why shouldn't the rest of us get a piece of that action? The whole thing is disgusting.
