Christmas sucks this year

Bah humbug.

Perhaps it's because I've just moved house, perhaps it's because I've had the worst year of my life, but I'm really struggling to get excited about Christmas this year.

I'm wincing even more than usual at the thought of shopping for tat that nobody really wants, failing to come up with original messages in Christmas cards, driving home in the rain on Christmas Eve, and worrying about throwing away cheques/vouchers along with the wrapping paper.

Even the thought of SingStar 80's with the family isn't raising my spirits much.

Can anyone help me remember the true spirit of Christmas (and no relgious nonsense, I beg you)?

christmas always sucks.

except for the twinkly lights and warm drinks.

For about three consecutive years Christmas was awful for me - people kept dying. This tainted Christmas big time, and every Christmas afterwards I'd brood and dwell and feel miserable.

I've bucked up now, obviously I can get a bit teary after a few drinks, remember relatives and stuff, but I think that's pretty normal. And I need to remember that even if I'm feeling a bit down, there's no need to make others feel the same.

Sometimes just pretending you're getting into the spirit does genuinely make you feel better!

Hmmm... I've either gone blind or I haven't even noticed much Xmas hype this year...

shopping for tat that nobody really wants

How 'bout those Oxfam charity gifts - goats and boats to African villages? We started doing this a couple of years ago and it definitely improved my xmas. It was a mutual decision though so I don't feel I'm ramming my smug holier-than-thou do-gooder attitude down anyone's throats.

FINALLY...THE ROCK...HAS COME BACK...TO I-L-E!

Marcel Gallingez, are you telling The Rock - AND THE MILLIONS - that you don't like Christmas? That you think it...sucks? That not even SingStar 80s is going to be a ray of sunshine in your otherwise dull life?

Well, The Rock says this. You can shine up that Christmas turkey up real nice and shove that sumbitch RIGHT UP YOUR CANDY ASS!

IF YA SMELLLLLLLLLLLLLL...WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKIN'!

The Rock, Tuesday, 29 November 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

Quaint.

Marcel Gallingez (Marcel Gallingez), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

Oh my.
Whatever you can strip away from it, do. Forget cards, forget gifts between adults, forget anxiety-inducing expensive roasts for dinner, forget getting together with relatives that stress you out (well, some of that is unavoidable, but that's what the warm drinks are for).
I actually felt a rush of happiness when I saw that the icicle lights were up on the hotel downtown. The solstice needs light, without the Christian add-on. Not that I've got any use for the whole Pagan crapola tradition, either. Go peddle your Druid wares elsewhere you fucking lame-o Wiccan Wymmin. I want to acknowledge the solstice like an animal, by sleeping more, packing on pounds, and huddling closer to my den-mates.
I also love the dramatic German-expressionist style shadows you cast at this time of year, even at noon. It's like you're in a Fritz Lang movie, all day long. So bundle up and GET OUTSIDE!!!
Walk the dog.

Unless it's deer week. Yikes! Shotgun blasts all around me!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

Seriously! At least thirty shots in a row, continuing as I write this. Is this guy getting ATTACKED by a herd of deer? Should I help? Someone need to go over there with a tank and provide cover fire so he can get out of there!

I've always disliked the holidays. They will especially suck this year as we lost my grandmother last month. In fact I don't even know if there will be a Xmas for my family as she always held it at her house. Everyone's still a bit shocked and nobody wants to take charge.

And I lost my job last week.

bah humbug indeed.
