It's not quite clear if the three witness actually saw the squirrels ATTACK and KILL the dog, or if maybe they were just feasting on an already dead dog, which would be a bit more plausible.

My dog nearly got a squirrel this morning. I was feeling sorry for him and his near-death experience but maybe it was for the best. For my dog.
