as in, i just saw "touch of evil" last night (with awesomely fat Orson Welles), and Charlton Heston was essentially himself, as he always is. this is cool in its own way, i mean, i can't imagine anyone else screaming indignantly at apes, or screaming indignantly about soilent green, but did he ever take a big chance as an actor and play a junkie or something?

The movies he did with Cagney where he was just a pathos-less sleazeball.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Friday, 2 December 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

He plays Charlton Heston with some dark makeup in Touch of Evil. That's different.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 2 December 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

anybody ever seen that movie where john wayne plays genghis khan?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 2 December 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

ive only seen The Maltese Falcon, so i dont know enough about Bogart to comment. But take Jack Nicholson: he has a very definate persona that seems to be around in every film he's in, but that persona has a range.

Heston, on the other hand, reminds me of Will Ferrell's impression of Robert Goulet. Everytime.

JD from CDepot, Friday, 2 December 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

Haha no but I've seen The King of Kings. . . *drawls* "This maaan is truly the son 'a God. . ."

Plot Summary for
The Pigeon That Took Rome (1962)

Charlton Heston stars as an American soldier behind Italian lines in World War II. In order to communicate German movements to the Allies, he uses carrier pigeons fitted with messages. As he grows more and more in love with the daughter of the family he stays with, the father accidentally feeds the pigeons to his family for Easter Dinner.

Do you guys remember that movie where he plays Michelangelo? I forget the name of it, but I just remember him screaming over and over at people, "IT WILL BE DONE...WHEN IT'S DONE" when they'd be all in his grill about the damn ceiling taking forever.

Heston also apparently played "french" in one of the Three Musketeer's movies. Not just any actor could do that.

Really, Mr. Heston has had a wide and varied array of roles, and I think this is proving his very large thespian range. French, Mexican, Italian, Jewish Egyptian. This is really your go to guy. They should cast Heston in the Geisha film.

Also, he can remove his helmet and has wires for hair.

Also, 3 was not the best. 2 was. I owned both. 3 was good, but 2 had better music, pacing, bosses and was just SOLID.

BEcause of this thread, I have had the opening music for Mega Man II stuck in my head for like half an hour on loop. Ba didida didida da daaaa, di da da da da daaaa. You know, you can download programs that will emulate the NES xound chip alone, and then get the nes sound and music files from ocremix.org, and then make pristine audiofile recordings of your favorite tunes? Also, The Advantage is coming out with another album of nintendo covers in I think January.

I have, and it was a creeeeeeeeepy situation: the film, the voiceover, the little plastic fetus dolls they give out for free, the whole thing.

Bogart being different BEFORE he became a star lead (High Sierra, I think) shouldn't count. I mean jeez, he played an IRISH STABLEHAND in Dark Victory.

I keep forgetting that Ed Wynn was the "Love to Laugh" guy in Mary Poppins, so ppl know him from that if not by name. Less from his Fire Chief character in '30s radio I spose.

BOGDANOVICH: I thought he was very good in [Touch of Evil].

WELLES: We rehearsed for two weeks before we shot, and he was an absolute soldier all the way through. I think he has the makings of a great heroic actor. And I don't know what movies may lead him into doing, but he has all the equipment -- the voice, the physique, the intelligence, and everything -- he's a big American heroic actor. If he isn't, then it's the movies' fault or the theatre's fault for not giving him enough to do.

so the jews spend 3 hours and 45 minutes trying to escape from yul brynner, they finally do in a huge climactic setpiece that ties all the dramatic threads together and brings everything to a nice satisfying close. Then in the last five minutes of the movie the jews are having a wild party to blow off steam, god tosses charlton heston some commandments, heston yells at everybody, a bunch of them get blown up(!), v/o tells us theyre all punished to wander for 40 years... thats when they roll credits?
