Would you pray at a ball game?

So it turns out that they're setting aside a special place for folks who want to pray during games at Giants Stadium. This is in response to complaints from Muslim fans after some of them detained back in September for doing just that.

What I find interesting is the rightwinger response to this:

It is a "prayer" room for everyone, but the muslism will dominate and intimidate everyone and will control it - no one but msulism will use it

They got the FBIs balls in a slingshot

The FBI looks really weak

Why cant the FBI fight for their right to do their job, not that they should have to, but better than apologizing unecessarily - that just looks lame

and

These folks are not going to stop of their own volition. They have made it crystal clear that they are here to islamicize America. Hell, all of their activitst groups (CAIR, MSU, MSA, etc.) come right out and say it. And our leaders cower before them. We are led by wusses.

and!

...Anyone who doesnt own a weapon I would suggest purchasing one ASAP at your local sporting goods store, going to your local gun shooting range to practice regularly and buying a shotgun for home protection, hard to miss and the click back action scares the bejeezus out of em

I know, I know, "bugfuck insane rightwingers in being bugfuck insane shocker." But, much like checking in at the Corner or reading Liberality for All every once in a while, it's kinda interesting/illuminating to read what these folks say to each other.

What's a ball game?

Ask the helpful folks here.

The only one of those that seems particularly interesting is the first one, wherein the guy outlines the precise reason lots of people don't like the idea of "optional" school prayer.

Muslims play with dead goats, not balls. I saw it on National Geographic.

andy --, Friday, 2 December 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

you lie, andy. you saw it in Rambo III, same as the rest of us did.

Can we, like, ban the people who hold up inexplicable Bible verses in the end zone? That's all I really care about here.

I thought Nat. Geo. produced Rambo III... it certainly is globetrotting.

Also, people who hold up signs that reference the broadcasting network for no other reason other than to get their sign on tv. They never make sense and often aren't nearly as clever as signs that just say things like "MARRY ME JASON SEHORN".

Alot of pro athletes thank God for victory, but they don't blame him for losses.

andy --, Friday, 2 December 2005 23:44 (twenty years ago)

Losses are usually the fault of Brett Favre.

Well theoretically they should thank him for losses, too, in that whole master-plan / lessons-learned / God-gives-us-each-our-challenges kinda way.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 2 December 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

They should probably just thank the FBI.

Ally, what's you opinion on folks who somehow have the signs that say that AND reference the broadcasting network?

not that you could necessarily fit "E S P N" into that marry me thing, but you know that some folks would try.

oh, and i should say i found the initial link from here, which also tries to stretch a bit too much with trying to fit a Jay Feely quote over the current Admin.

What about those lackey bootlickers hanging on the fence at Good Morning America? "The Shelton Girls JV Volleyball - State Champs '06!!" Ugh.

andy --, Friday, 2 December 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

are there ANY appropriate signs for such large events?

Those msulisms are all a bunch of torrerusts, anyway!
I wish I could remember a quote by an NBA coach where he said something to the effect of it's nice that people pray before a game, but god is not going to parachute into the stadium and start scoring freethrows just because you prayed to him.

Sengai, Saturday, 3 December 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

my atheism is at least partially fueled by my unanswered prayers during the last six redskins seasons...

JD from CDepot, Saturday, 3 December 2005 04:20 (twenty years ago)

God doesn't like the redskins because of their racist name? (joke)

The FBI detaining the Muslims were profiling. I don't know what the detaining entailed, but they were being singled out because if their faith. I'm not sure if this is good or bad, necessary or unecessary.

I like this one:

According to the American Criminal Lawyers' Union, Christians and Jews can do no right.

Oh I see, now we Jews are on YOUR side in the struggle against Islam. We're all good buddies, we go way back! And there goes that Jew-hating ACLU again.

Abbadabba Berman (Hurting), Saturday, 3 December 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

Jews became OK around the same time as Wolfowitz showed up. Sort of like how Faith No More made it OK for alt-rock kids to like metal.

I think what you were looking for is "...all things work together for good to them that love God..."

Laurel (Laurel), Sunday, 4 December 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

I really enjoyed the WCW days when people would hold up signs that said GOLDBERG FEARS PORK
