Let us celebrate. But let us also look askance at the upcoming movie. Now, to its credit, George is portrayed as he is in the books, ie voiceless. No wisecracking asides or crap like that from him, good thing too. And the trailer shows that the color scheme is much like the original art, not exact but a good carry-over.

Still, nothing else about the jokes shown were much, the voice cast list includes David Flippin' Cross and they're proud to tell you that the soundtrack will consist of original songs by Jack Johnson. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

I'm glad there's a kids' movie coming out that doesn't have Pixar/Dreamworks graphics & potty humor out the wazoo.

sometimes we buy the new george books at the thrift store and they are drawn by a computer. i wish i had a picture of rufus's birthday cake yesterday. it had a big chocolate picture of george in a race car on the top of it. yummy cake. rufus turned 3 yesterday. he loves his georgie. still sleeps with him at nite. i also painted an acrylic painting of george for his room. he dug that a bunch.

Extremely cool. I actually ended up with The Stars before the other book, which is more of a children's book, where The Stars is for a general reader. Both are excellent, though, and as a fantastic general guide for stargazing and basic astronomy, The Stars just can't be beat.

having seen the trailer, i'm a little mystified as to why the monkey doesn't look like george. surely he's not that hard to draw?

Um, Rock Hardy to thread?

I loved my George t-shirt (George passed out with the ether bottle) so much I wore it out. I need another. I first used "I Am Curious (George)" as a fanzine title in 1990, and it was my screen name here for a while.

xpost sorta -- hahaha I just got here and saw the thread.

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 3 December 2005 23:47 (nineteen years ago)

Watching our 1-year-old scramble around brings home that the genius of George is the way he perfectly embodies the unrestrained id of a toddler. And the Man in the Yellow Hat is a great paternal figure: loving, forgiving, exasperated. Hell, he let George go to outer space -- what a dad.

I enjoyed the appearance of CG and TMITYH in the children's-book-characters-grow-up-to-live-in-a-hardboiled-detective-world pastiche Brown Harvest, which I believe I mentioned once before.

I grew up with The Stars, which is of course completely great. Especially since H.A. Rey apparently invented the modern star-connecting-methods. I thanked him on Saskatchewan, since I used his book as my main reference when writing "The Giraffe".

I know nothing about H.A. Rey but I loved The Stars as a kid. It taught me the few constellations I still remember, such a fantastic book.
