I have found no other thread or board dealing with this so I must ask here.

HOW 'BOUT THEM HORNS!?!

Seriously, the Rose Bowl. How's it going to go down? Who does ILX think will walk out national champs?

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Sunday, 4 December 2005 05:46 (twenty years ago)

this Aggie is going to have to swallow state pride and root for USC!

actually im torn. but i think USC will win out--they seem ready. Texas will be like a virgin bride on the day of the wedding. and Young's sloppy play will bite them in the ass. Bush is mind-blowing.

ryan (ryan), Sunday, 4 December 2005 06:15 (twenty years ago)

Vince wasn't sloppy today.

And, it's okay. When A&M plays OU I always root for the Sooners. :)

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Sunday, 4 December 2005 06:17 (twenty years ago)

If the line is anything less than USC by two touchdowns, I'm betting half a paycheck on them.

"If the line is anything less than USC by two touchdowns, I'm betting half a paycheck on them."

I remember a certain Miami team that was unbeatable, maybe the finest team ever, that somehow got smoked by Oklahoma in the national title game a few years back.

Texas might not beat USC, but I don't think the Trojans are a lock with their defense. I think they give away too many points to make it a blowout, especially to a team like UT that has a good offense.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Sunday, 4 December 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

the lions should just sign matt leinart now and start him today.

keyth (keyth), Sunday, 4 December 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

Texas is hardly a lock. Their only challenge this year was the Aggies, who sucked. Texas wasn't challenged at all during the season. Ohio State was impressive, but it was against a very unsure OSU team on the first game.

USC, on the other hand, had a much stronger schedule and beat a very good Notre Dame team on the road. USC has come back several times this year in dramatic fashion, invaluable experience for the bowl season. The inspiration to knock off a 30+ game winning streak is very, very high.

As for betting your paycheck on a double-digit spread, I might also add that college football has not seen a gutsy, take charge winner like Matt Linehart in at least a decade. Texas is going to give USC a good game, but I wouldn't be surprised to see USC favored given the locale.

Not to mention I'd put more trust in three weeks of practice and preparation to Pete Carroll, who has made an impressive habit of winning games that he's not supposed to. Have we already forgotten the dismantling of a supposedly awesome Oklahoma team?

And if that's not enough, USC has the two best players in college football right now in Linehart and Reggie Bush. It may be true that USC's defense may have seen some shaky moments, but I'd pick Linehart's arm and Bush's legs/hands in a shootout any day of the week. Nobody has shut down the USC offense this year, and no one's come close. Does anyone think that Texas can? They haven't seen a sophisticated offense or speed all year long.

one month passes...
Despite the typo in the title I'm reviving this thread.

Was that a great interception or what? Don't count us out yet. . .

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 5 January 2006 02:36 (twenty years ago)

oh man. if we win everyone's going to be bitching about that last TD saying we didn't deserve. Better win by at least two then.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 5 January 2006 02:42 (twenty years ago)

Is Keith Jackson (the "whoooooa nelly" sportscaster) drunk or just senile?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 5 January 2006 02:43 (twenty years ago)

I was thinking just bad. Did you hear the 'yippee' he gave right before kickoff?

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 5 January 2006 02:45 (twenty years ago)

And he fumbled! (clearly a lateral)
And the extra point is good! (while ref signaling no good)

Pretty good game so far, though. Not sure what's up with all the sloppy turnovers though.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 5 January 2006 02:49 (twenty years ago)

nerves, overenthusiasm. Can definitely be a game-killer though.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 5 January 2006 02:51 (twenty years ago)

So is it even now that we just got robbed of an interception?

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 5 January 2006 02:57 (twenty years ago)

hells yeah!

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 5 January 2006 03:54 (twenty years ago)

ah fuck. ( I love how I'm mostly talking to myself here.)

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 5 January 2006 04:04 (twenty years ago)

exactly how gay are the texas male band uniforms?

jergins (jergins), Thursday, 5 January 2006 04:28 (twenty years ago)

what! they're totally classic 40's style western wear. Real statson hats.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 5 January 2006 04:31 (twenty years ago)

classic? that dive into the end zone, that was classic.

xpost i'm drunk

jergins (jergins), Thursday, 5 January 2006 04:33 (twenty years ago)

Keith Jackson is the most wonderful kind of senile: deep voice intact, generally knows what's going on. He reminds me of being a kid, bored, in front of the tv.

jergins (jergins), Thursday, 5 January 2006 04:34 (twenty years ago)

The offficials are totally impotent tonite...

My $200 on USC -6.5 is looking good right now.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Thursday, 5 January 2006 04:52 (twenty years ago)

Upon further review, maybe Vince Young saying he should win the Heisman wasn't so crazy after all.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 5 January 2006 05:15 (twenty years ago)

good game yo

jergins (jergins), Thursday, 5 January 2006 05:15 (twenty years ago)

Holy shit. What a game.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 5 January 2006 05:18 (twenty years ago)

sorry wooderson.

jergins (jergins), Thursday, 5 January 2006 05:24 (twenty years ago)

FUCK YEAH!!!!

HOLY SHIT!!!

my laptop ran out of power about the time we got that foul for roughing the passer so I stopped posting. I was feeling pretty foul about them but they came through didn't they?

HOW 'BOUT THEM HORNS!!!

unbelievable!!!

(and yes there were bad calls left and right during this game.)

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 5 January 2006 05:33 (twenty years ago)

Man, I didn't think I'd enjoy a USC loss so much. This Bruin fan will go to sleep with a smile on his face tonite.

lol@usc fans
you've just been mcconaughey'd

I GUARONTEE ::cajun voice:: (Adrian Langston), Thursday, 5 January 2006 09:45 (twenty years ago)

ya know, for all of the carping about going for it on 4th (i can see carroll's pov, but i woulda punted), why aren't they talking about THROWING THE BALL with 2:30 left and possession? that leinart incomplete pass was HUGE. just run the fucking thing and let the clock run down! if they had done that, that 4th and 2 would've been coming with about 1:30 on the clock and texas with only one timeout. i thought that was quite the martz-ian error.

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Thursday, 5 January 2006 14:16 (twenty years ago)

I was screaming at the TV making the same point, Jams! (not to mention not kicking that field goal in the 1Q)

"rodney peete was a pretty great college player gear!"

Peete was never great, but he played in the NFL for a long time, much longer than guys like Torretta, Ware, Klingler and Wuerffuel who all won Heismanns.

earlnash, Thursday, 5 January 2006 17:30 (twenty years ago)

pete carroll pulled a bill cowher.

I GUARONTEE ::cajun voice:: (Adrian Langston), Thursday, 5 January 2006 19:21 (twenty years ago)

klingler didn't win a heisman! i think!
