What's hot on American tv right now?

Currently I'm following Alias, The OC, Lost, Desperate Housewives and Prison Break. All the HBO shows I follow have recently ended/not started yet.

It has to be things that are available for download. So what's hot right now?

the office US is amazing comedy. arrested development season 3 has been great so far.

i just looked up sleeper cell. it sounds interesting(i love oded fehr) but it's not available on any torrent sites. damn!

curb your enthusiasm is a show that i for some reason i have never seen. which is weird considering the fact that i am fullly aware that larry david was the real genius behind seinfeld.

The Office US is good, is it? I watched one episode and, while it certainly wasn't as bad as I feared, I didn't think much of it. Being a brit though, I think I'm incapable of having an objective opinion on it.

Veronica Mars and the OC are the only shows I care about watching every week. I watch Lost, but mostly to be annoyed. Everything else is pretty much worthless.

As a rule, (American) sitcoms are rarely worth the effort, especially in the post-season 10/9/whatever of The Simpsons. I firmly believe that if you want reliable yuks, your best bet is to go with a well-written drama. (VERONICA MARS.) On top of the laughs, you'd get genuine storylines to follow and by thrilled by instead of the sitcom's contrived situations hoping to generate comedy. Which disqualifies The Office American out of hand -- I've seen more episodes of it than I have of the UK version, but the US version was fundamentally underwhelming.

If you're not too stuck up, I would heartily recommend any of a spate of excellent reality programs as well, many of which create more exciting drama than scripted shows do.

VERONICA MARS?!?! you guys are geeks.

howell huser (chaki), Monday, 5 December 2005 02:42 (nineteen years ago)

Veronica Mars is brilliant.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Monday, 5 December 2005 02:44 (nineteen years ago)

I also watch Smallville, which is not at all brilliant. But it's surprisingly rather entertaining this season. And it's back to being one of The WB's top-rated shows.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Monday, 5 December 2005 02:48 (nineteen years ago)

The only shows I have to watch now are Veronica Mars and Arrested Dev. Prison Break, Lost, OC and Gilmore Girls have fallen into 2nd tier.

Mendoza Lineman (Carey), Monday, 5 December 2005 03:12 (nineteen years ago)

I just started getting into Invasion. Nice & creepy, not what I thought it would be at all. Created by Shaun Cassidy, yay!

Also pretty cool is Showtime's "Masters of Horror" series. (Short films directed by horror gurus like Don Coscarelli, John Carpenter, Takashi Miike, the newest one was by Joe Dante called 'Homecoming', probably the best thing he's done in his whole career. Oh, and easily downloadable...all the eps I've watched have been pulled of PirateBay.

Wow, that sounds amazing! I'm downloading the first episode of it already.

Lovelace (Lovelace), Monday, 5 December 2005 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

The OC and that 70s show are about the only TV shows I watch religiously. Reruns of that 70s show. I have no idea what the hell they’re doing in the new episodes. Some guy replaced Eric and then some guy replaced the replacement, I think. It amazes me Ashton Kutcher is still there.

I also try to watch The Office and Arrested Development but their scheduling is so on again off again, I seem to miss them most of the time.

I've also been enjoying my first look at Sex and the City on the WB. Damn those chicks are slutty!

sunny successor (katharine), Monday, 5 December 2005 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

I wish you'd post to the Veronica Mars thread more, Mel! I'd like to know what you make of these past couple of shows.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 5 December 2005 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

Has anyone seen Fox's ludicrous San Francisco serial killer show on Friday's? I watched the other night... really, really bad, a trainwreck really, but it's fascinating to see how they can distort and malign San Francisco. At one point they were going to find a mahjong tile engraver, but instead of shooting the scene in Chinatown, they shot it in the Japanese Gardens in GG Park!! I can't remember what it's called.

jeffrey (johnson), Monday, 5 December 2005 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

Why is nobody else watching Pasadena on the Soap Network right now? This is seriously the most messed-up show since Twin Peaks.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Monday, 5 December 2005 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

i just want to say that Veronica Mars sucks.

howell huser (chaki), Monday, 5 December 2005 18:30 (nineteen years ago)

jeffrey (johnson), Monday, 5 December 2005 18:31 (nineteen years ago)
