I have to goto Vegas for a wedding in January

...I need help/suggestions. The wedding itself is at Mandalay Bay and is going to be pretty damn expensive. What I want to know is, what are some reasonable places to stay? Im sure as hell not staying in the wing they have reserved @ $500 a night.

The airfare is taken care of. Im just looking for a non-seedy hotel, but one with a "vegas experience". Sure, I could look up stuff on Expedia/Travelocity, but their testimonial section leaves a little to be desired. Just looking for things like "I went here and it sucked" or "stay away from here because of XXX"...

just win lots at the casino and you're sorted.

Thats what I was thinking, but I'm afraid that might be the wrong attitude to have going into this.

Excalibur was amusing in a sick kinda way.

Whatever you do, if you do not go here for at least one meal (and drag a few willing accomplices with you), I will mock you mercilessly until your death.

If you're going over the weekend, the rooms are MUCH dearer. If you're not, you should be able to get a night for under $50 in a Strip hotel.

Whats so special about that place, Ned? Looks like a place within a stone's throw of any military base I've ever been to.

I've stayed in the Imperial Palace a couple times... definitely cheaper than most, but nice enough: http://www.imperialpalace.com/

What JBR said -- trust me, this is Thai food of the gods, and you will kick yourself if you don't go. Read this for further verification.

I've stayed at The Mirage, Luxor, and New York New York. The latter two seemed pretty reasonable.

Famed punk-rock club CBGB may be trading in the Bowery for the blackjack table.

The New York institution -- which will be evicted from its current location on the Bowery sometime in 2006 -- is in talks to secure a new home near the Aladdin Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Club owner Hilly Kristal confirmed he is looking at Desert Passage, a 475,000-square-foot retail and entertainment strip that surrounds the Aladdin. Two casino sources said he is in negotiations.

"It could be really good," Kristal said. "I'm considering it."

Try to get one of the not-so-new ones like Bourbon Street or Bally's or Barbary Coast. I've never stayed in those but I've visited friends who had rooms in Bally's, and they seemed fine, just not brand new. I've always stayed at Treasure Island and I really like it for the price, but it's a bit of a walk from Mandalay Bay. However, it's close to the Casino Royale which has $2 craps and quarter roulette and a Denny's next door.

one month passes...
We're going to Vegas next weekend, to visit family and try the Thai food of the gods mentioned above. Any other restaurant suggestions?
