True story : several years ago I got a phone call very early on a Sunday morning from a mate of mine who was a traffic cop. He was dealing with an accident on the M40 in which a lorry full of polystyrene crates filled with fresh Scottish salmon packed in ice had tipped over and lost its load all over the mororway. The Loss Adjusters had been called out and had told the company to throw all the crates of salmon away (health and safety regs or something) .... so I went down there to help myself to car loads of salmon, then went round all my neighbours in the village handing out fish. It was fantastic.
